Players will be able to play the Dual Universe PC beta this August, which will introduce a new subscription service.

GameSpot can exclusively reveal that Novaquark's sci-fi MMO Dual Universe will release a beta on August 27. You can head over to the game's official website to sign-up for the beta; it's worth pointing out that right now, Dual Universe is alpha testing, with players able to join simply by purchasing a key for $60, $120, or $180. Once players enter the beta, Dual Universe will begin the next phase of its development, using a new subscription model once it goes live.

Starting at a monthly subscription of $6.99, the beta will have a range of different pricing models. The three month subscription is set at $20.97, six months will be $38.45, and 12 months will be $69.90. CEO of Novaquark Jean-Christoph Baillie stated the following.

“We’ve been working on Dual Universe for over four years, and after completing the foundation for all main gameplay pillars, we’re presenting a solid idea of what this unique game offers to players, and a fully playable game for Beta.” said Baillie. “This is a huge milestone for us, as it is the culmination of so much hard work from the developers and a direct result of the community’s commitment to improve the game. I’m incredibly proud of everyone involved.”

Currently, as of July 2020, pledging money to Dual Universe at one of the three alpha test pricing models nets you a variety of goodies ranging from guaranteed alpha and beta access with multiple keys (depending on tier), pets, in-game items such as outfits, and more. You can check out a new trailer below.

Alongside announcing the beta that will take place this August, Novaquark shared a cinematic trailer for Dual Universe. The trailer, below, details the game's lore. You play as a pioneer lucky enough to be drafted to restart humanity after Earth was deemed inhospitable and destroyed by a neutron star. Now you go around fulfilling the Rebirth Project, an effort to rebuild human civilization in a new solar system.

The studio also shared a series of official Dual Universe screenshots, showing off the Earth from orbit, various facilities and space stations, ships flying through the cosmos, and more. Check them out below.

Additionally, since Dual Universe is a sandbox that allows you to build your own environments and facilities, Novaquark provided a look at what communities can build within Dual Universe. Check them out below.

Dual Universe has been in development for several years now. It's a sort of hybrid game that combines the elements of EVE Online with the creation aspects of Minecraft.

Correction 8:15am PST: The Dual Universe beta will be released on the main site for the game, and not via Epic Game Store.

For anyone who's not a big fan of the subscription model but likes the sound of this game, there's a game on steam called Empyrion - Galactic Survival that does some similar things (expansive galaxy, voxel-based building system, etc). It is still in need of some major polish though.

With elite and dangerous bringing in 3rd person gameplay soon, and star citizens full world, and no man's sky free huge world.

May hurt duels subscription model for hosting it on s server.

They should have made it a huge file size, let people down load it and enjoy every crazy thing they wanted people to experience in crazy details, then ask people if they wish to join the server.

But they want to be the next Eve online.

@Crazy_sahara:
That's fair but i wouldn't count Star Citizen amongst them.
I think most of us have given up waiting for that.
I could detail and power up that statement but i think the awareness is fairly zeitgeist by now.

Yeah, DU is going to be a different game to all of them, it isn't meant to appeal to everyone.
choice is good
Im an owner of the full commander pack in E:D, bought into it pre-release because i believe(d) in the game.
I believe in DU's vision as well.
There's plenty of space for everyone ;)

`But they want to be the next Eve online.`
that's a little loose but i think yeah.. that's a comparitive competitor.

@knighthshade123: The best type of space game would be:

8 planets and each planet has 8 ships, and based on your faction you spawn on that planet(if the ratio of players is uneven, the system will ask extra xp, and rare rewards for joining a different temporary faction) and beginners will start out in the city land Scape that has malls, and training grounds with the planets own culture, and evolves based on the collective ratio of community's voting on themes. So you'll have older players who are elites walking down the arcade that will receive bounties bases on community clan changes.

After the beginners start out, they will first see two huge gates that over look the space hyper ramp that shoots people up to the military ship.

And 32 people will be on board, people will have a few minutes to pick roles, engineer, soldier, researcher, scientist, medic, or crew deck.

As the clock counts down each person will be randomly assigned with a destination, the ship will launch through space, however if two ships from opposing teams warp next to each other then a mutany will appear, the flight decks will open, engineers can border up doors, (welding them shut)but how the enemy team boarding the ship (becomes similar to battlefield 2142) can very from each opposing team, where they must pass through doors and make a decision to unweld the doors eventually Being flanked, behind the welded door could be a tarrret.( or something much more sinister behind the welded doors.)

You must enter either ship and obliterate the warp drive, destroying two ships in mutany where players that die must be spawned in via a science team(rewards the team a special mutant gene to create monsters that have not been seen yet due to the collape of hyper drives, where only level 10 Goliath's can be created to protect the planet from destruction, sustaining the clan planet)but the scientists can create mutations from the hypwrdrive,(they can add limbs, design the creature and set them lose via either ai, or if a player is near and wishes to merge with it) adding horrid looking mutations that can enter the games atmosphere where either team is now a enemy, or randomly generated ai spawning near welded doors, where it becomes survival horror game, where each ship will have to survive while engaging in war fare, but if the scientist dies, the mutant spawns die, similar to xenomorphs.

Spaceships will leave the bay hanger engaging in space battles, where parts of the ship can explode and decompresses (showing a timer to leave)before it explodes and any one cought in the timer either takes over the roles of the mutation onboard unless the mutations are dead, then )all people can vote to self destruct the ship, but doing so stops the other teams obtaining Goliath technology, but brings them one step closer to your planet.

So careful planning can result in changes to warefare.

If another vessel also warps in (since the ships move around the galaxy circular, like rock papper scissors) then it's a 128 players, so now 4 vessels are engaged, but if the vessels are able to destroy the enemies planet(and if no Goliath type technology was researched for that planet ) then the beginners who started playing will have access to greater health, stealth technology and Allow to access certain tech temporary as they would not have access to that as elites do while leveling up much faster taking down as many of the invading teams they can get.

If they manage to take down a elite much higher then them, they can gain that weapon they were carrying for a few days with a huge xp gain.

Once the bomb is set those on that planet all players joining that planet must survive a death match mode but they will level up faster, but also lose.

If the opposing team wipes your

entire planet out, yet you're still in space with all 32 players remaining, the opposing team will light up, and a collective vengeance warp, with location of the enemy ship, while revealing current state of the galaxy, and how many planets remain.

Once a planet is destroyed, those players that lost must join a new faction with all xp, and skins.

If the last planet in the galaxy is last, that team is the winner.

😑 But to ambitious, and would fail.

That's a shame, I was looking forward to this game but I've got no desire to add another subscription fee to my monthly bills and I don't have the time or desire to grind. FTP or bust for me, thanks.

Are you kidding me? Pay us $60+ to alpha test our broken game, and then once it goes live we're charging you a monthly fee. Greed knows no bounds

@Dilandau88: Not only do Alpha backers get free Beta access for the full Beta, they also get game time when it goes into full release. I don't know exactly how much game time but I like to believe it's close to equivalent in monetary value. Alpha gameplay is not for everyone, others can feel free to wait for Beta or full release.

As for the sub fee, the game is following suit of games like Eve Online because the goal is to be as grand as other persistent single-server, no-instances MMOs.

@Dilandau88:

Actually no Gamespot has done a bad job here and it's already been shared 5 times out there through other articles.

Beta is subscription free for alpha backers
Final release you'll be able to pay for your game sub by doing things in game if u have time on your hands.
if that time is spent earning a wage IRL then u can convert that wage to gametime.

I believe it's very fair.
FYI - don't edit your posts here not even once you'll get spam kicked.
thanks for that by the way

@knighthshade123: The way you worded is confusing. Is the Beta free for everyone or just people who backed Alpha?

@knighthshade123: SO if you have no life and can dedicate it to grinding yet another online game you don't get robbed. I don't think your correction makes it sound any better.

@jeremyalexander:
I doubt that 1 months sub requires much grinding once your skills are up.
it's generally just a day in other games.

We shall see won't we

@jeremyalexander: How is paying a sub fee getting robbed? That's how MMOs have been for decades. Either the game's good enough to be worth it, or you don't bother.

@Dilandau88: I am sure since it is a builder it is going to have massive amounts of microtransactions too.

@gaeandilth: pretty sure the fact that there's a sub fee means there won't be micro transactions, at least not game braking ones I hope. Games without a sub are the games I worry about having game breaking micro transactions.
