Jack Tretton and Andrew House, both recognized Sony Computer Entertainment America veterans in the field of electronics and computer entertainment, have assumed the positions of senior vice president, effective immediately. Tretton, a founding member of SCEA and the former VP of sales, was partly responsible for the PlayStation's success in the late '90s. Andrew House has been with SCEA for ten years and is generally credited for building the PlayStation from a gaming console to a household name.

Kaz Hirai, president and chief operating officer for SCEA, said in a press release that he's enthused about the appointments and is optimistic about the upcoming PS2 launch. "As we prepare to launch the long-anticipated PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, we understand the importance of further strengthening our management team so that our valued retail and third-party partners are supported by seasoned executives that can ensure the broadest continuing support for the platform." Of House and Tretton's promotions, he added, "With their significant contributions at Sony Computer Entertainment America coupled with their strong background in the electronics and software entertainment industries, Jack Tretton and Andrew House's considerable talents will certainly contribute to the company's continued innovation and leadership."

The PS2 will launch on October 26 for US$299.99.
