According to The Hollywood Reporter, Six Underground represents Netflix's biggest blockbuster push since the Will Smith movie Bright which was a miss with critics but still a massive success for Netflix. As THR explains, Netflix typically spends money on movies with low- or mid-level budgets, with Bright being an exception and now Six Underground.
Sources told the site that the plot of Six Underground involves six billionaires who fake their deaths to become a group of heroes who go after bad guys. The script was written by Reese and Wernick, who wrote Deadpool 1 and 2, as well as Zombieland and its upcoming sequel.
According to THR, production on the film will begin this summer ahead of a 2019 premiere on Netflix.
Bay is one of Hollywood's biggest names. He's known for directing high-octane, explosion-filled blockbusters like the Bad Boys and Transformers franchises. In addition to Six Underground, he has a number of other projects in the works, including the Dora the Explorer live-action movie.
