Rogue Trooper marches on factory

In September 1981, the Rogue Trooper comic strip debuted in the British comic magazine 2000 AD. The grim series of a GI--a blue-skinned, superhuman "Genetic Infantryman"--slogging through the trenches of a brutal far-future war became a cult sensation. It would go through several writers during its initial run, which finally ended in 1996. However, popular demand caused the Rogue Trooper character to be resurrected in 2002, three years after 2000 AD was bought by British game developer Rebellion (Sniper Elite).

During the comic's initial run, two Rogue Trooper games were produced--Piranha Software's 1986 isometric shooter for the Commodore 64 and a 1990 Amiga game from Krisalis Software. In May 2004, Rebellion announced plans to make a third Rogue Trooper game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC. Just a few months later, SCi Games announced it would publish the game.

Now, the new Rogue Trooper game is on the verge of reporting for duty. Today SCi-owned Eidos, which will be distributing the game in North America, announced that all versions of the title have gone gold and are being sent to the factory.
