Rockstar hiring to bring "latest titles" to PC

Since-removed job posting at Rockstar Leeds suggests company's newest games could come to PC.

Rockstar Leeds recently posted (and has since removed) a job listing for a programmer who would assist in bringing the company's "latest titles" to PC.

No Caption Provided

"Rockstar Leeds are currently looking for a talented graphics programmer to help bring our latest titles to the PC platform," reads a line from the job ad as captured by Rockstar Watch.

"Working together with the other Rockstar studios, you will be responsible for maintaining the studio’s uncompromising quality bar, delivering the highest quality PC experience possible."

The requisition also mentions "working with skilled developers on next generation gamers," suggesting Rockstar will continue to release games on PC in the future.

A Rockstar Games representative was not immediately available to comment.

Some of Rockstar Games' "latest titles" currently unavailable or unannounced for PC include 2010's Red Dead Redemption and this September's Grand Theft Auto V. The company has said a PC version of GTAV is "up for consideration."

Rockstar Games released the first official gameplay trailer for GTAV today. For more, check out GameSpot's editor analysis of the footage.

RDR on PC.

What I expected to see on the comment section: rejoice!

What it actually is: Console war.

Don't want GTA V on pc if it's going to be a shitty port like GTA IV. Either do it right or keep it on console.

@Enforcer246 It wasn't THAT bad, they tried at least instead of just doing a shit console port. It works great on some systems and really badly on others keep in mind.

I'd love to know where that RDR screenshot came from because it sure as shit isn't from console. I own it for both 360 and PS3 and neither looks remotely that good.

Well, I will condone that PC gaming is superior to console gaming but the rest of the people do not look at it that way. Some people just want to play a game directly without the hassle of worrying about what computer specs will suffice or the applications and programs to download along with the PC. Some people like the simplicity of just getting into the game and playing it. PC gaming is not for everyone because it requires a whole lot of education regarding specs, configurations and building your own Desktop by your self. One more thing is that console gaming is more social when you have your friend over. I think it is an inconvenience to play multiplayer games on a single PC if it may be possible for limited number of games.

I would love a gaming desktop if I had enough money to play all games on Ultra or else I would stick with a console. Keeping the games on the highest setting will require me to update my GPU and processor too often and eventually ill have a huge cost incurred.

@Vizard666 As a prime user of pc... I get your logic. I am fortunate to have a top gaming unit, but you will never find me putting down any console player. We should all unite for the love of the game

@Vizard666 So how exactly a piece of news about Rokcstar hiring people evolved into another discussion PC vs Consoles? Lol. Why people just not stick to their platform of choice and keep their fanboyism to themselves.

@Vizard666 at first there is one problem that majority of action/adventure games are not on pc and not only them

+ you won't need to upgrade your processor very often if you buy good one nor GPU

you don't need to play everything on Ultra there are few of games which need latest GPU-s to play on ultra and most of them are badly optimisded

at the end I'll say that PC as the platform(+steam) is superior but as the gaming device it is not, because it has no developer support enough to satisfy all gamers with games

many games are ported too late and most of them are poorly optimisded

I love both for instance and own both

@Vizard666 It actually requires no knowledge whatsoever which is why you see retards mixed in with IT professionals in the PC gaming world. You can buy a gaming PC, even a low or mid range gaming PC, and it will run everything for years. The only point at which any education or experience comes in to play is when you start talking about inconsequential differences in performance, or trying to find the best set up to squeeze a little more power out of your processors when overclocking - or god forbid, building your own liquid cooling.

@Grenadeh @Vizard666 @Gam3_B0y Yes, I understand what you might be saying but initially I was victim to lack of certain knowledge when I bought a pc. I had no idea what graphic card ,processor, RAM memory, motherboard, and all the other specs setup was appropriate to give me the best experience so I just went ahead and bought based on assumption and I screwed myself over as a result . Now I make sure that I do my research before building a PC, but the point is that I am sure not many people want to go through the process of research and building it because the gateway to learning this stuff is supposedly overwhelming to them , when it is actually not once they find stuff out. I just understand that the more casual gamer would trust buying a console because they do not want to get into much of the details or any for that matter.

@Vizard666 @Grenadeh @Gam3_B0y I actually have decent knowledge of PCs and have video editing machine that would run any current game no problem because of the high specs. I choose to go console merely cause there are exclusives that can be found on consoles that are not on PC.

@victorcom Yeah sure, sales for WoW are poor.....it's impossible to make money on PC, sure......it's just strange that Chris Roberts collected 14 million dollars of donations/preorders for Star Citizens from only 200,000 PC gamers.....but yeah, sales on PC are poor.....

Perhaps sales for GTA 4 on PC were not that good because many mulitplatform users bought the game already on console because the PC port was released months after the console versions. It's easy to state that PC sales are not that good in the case, isn't it?

@LordCrash88 @victorcom I know anyone will mention WOW. There are only a handful of games that makes good pc sales. Around 80% of the games sales are not good in pc. Just see the major multiplatform games released in 2012 and go to vgchartz and compare the sales volume with consoles. Its too poor.

@victorcom Sure they have. All I said was that the probable income of PC sales must cover these optimization costs and give a decent return.....you said it does not but you're lacking any form of actual proof.....

So where's your list of not-ported games?

@LordCrash88 I didn't generalize it either. But that's what happening. Right game cost is many times more than porting cost. But still they need to allocate some of their resources to do that right?

@victorcom So tell me the many big games that are not ported (without the 1st party console exclusives).....

And your argument about the costs is still wrong. Of course optimization for PC and the various hardware available for it can be a costly thing. But it's nothing compared to the development costs of the actual game, which means the design, making the assets, scripting, storywriting and implementation, voice-acting, working on the sounds and musik, working on the game engine and all the other development stuff. That's the major cost factor in game development and it's independent from the system the game will be available on.

So it's highly unreasonable to not port a multiplatform game to PC apart from not having the manpower or PC experts to do so (my guess for RDR) or having some exclusive deals with console manufacturers. There can be other reasons and for some genres the sales figures on PC might indeed be too small to not justify a port. But it's not something that can be generalized in any way.....

@victorcom @LordCrash88 As are you. What exactly IS your point? That developers should shun a particular platform because they'll get half the sales on it as on another platform? That's idiotic thinking.

@LordCrash88 Don't be generic, if PC game is profitable, why developers are not porting many games. Literal point is its not profitable or not worth the hassle. Al so you miss the point, consoles developers are only porting for 2 specific hardware but pc how many different gpu and system. So optimization is out of the expectation. So the pc game sales numbers should be more than consoles to make it profitable.

@victorcom @victorcom First of off vgchartz do not count digital downloads like from steam most people do not buy pc games from retail which vgchartz does not track. Dark Souls sold more than 300,000 copies on pc from what the developers but it only said it sold .01m on vgchartz simply because it only track retail the majority of pc games are not bought in retail

@victorcom TOO poor for what? Don't pretend that your opinion which is based on some numbers you don't properly understand was a fact.

The absolute number of games being sold on PC can tell you absolutely nothing about the question if a port is worth the effort or not without knowing the costs of the port or the costs of true multiplatform development.

Stating some numbers without any connection and comparison to other important numbers doesn't prove anything. It's just a bad attempt of trolling or pure ignorance.....
