Following last week's confirmation that Rocket League was getting a physical release, today developer Psyonix announced more details. The new version of the hit soccer-with-cars game will arrive for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at stores during Q3 2016 (July-September) through a partnership with 505 Games.

Psyonix also announced that, in addition to the base game and Rocket League's three previously released expansions (Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, and Chaos Run), the physical version will come with some "cool, retail-exclusive goodies." More information will be shared in the lead-up to launch.

505 Games also publishes Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Payday 2: Crimewave Edition.

Rocket League was released in July 2015 on PS4 and PC and was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2015. It has now sold 4 million copies and has attracted around 12 million players.

In all, it's already made more than $70 million against a $2 million initial budget. Development on the game is ongoing, as Psyonix has pledged to support Rocket League with even more DLC, including next month's Batman v Superman content.

Thank you for basically saying "screw you" to everyone who adopted the digital version right off the bat.

I picked this up for PS4 last weekend at the request of my fiend. I really enjoy it. I'm going to purchase it for XB1 this weekend.

Glad to see that this has found so much success that it is being released physically now, but I am a bit annoyed at the exclusive content. I prefer having my games digitally anyway and so have no desire to purchase a physical copy of the game just for some bonuses. Bummed however that it sounds like that will be the only way to get said bonuses though perhaps they will be made available later as DLC, who knows!

Question: if you've already bought and loved the digital edition, will you still keep the items you unlocked when playing the physical edition?

@KBABZ: Why on earth would you buy it physically if you already own it digitally?

@jshah500: Because I would have preferred to have bought it physically in the first place.

@KBABZ: I genuinely do not understand your reasoning. Regardless, you buying a game twice will only help the developer, whom I like, so you have my blessing.

Unrelated: A Nigerian price needs money from you to save his collapsing kingdom. I am his financial representative. If you can help, I promise, he will reward you handsomely once he regains ownership. Let me know if you can help and I'll send you my paypal info.

@KBABZ: I'm going to guess yes since all of that would be stored on your hard drive.

@jose_consuela: Yeah, in the profile save. Problem is, several games have made physical and digital saves incompatible with each other, such as Burnout Paradise.
