Rocket League June Update Details Include New Ways to Customize Your Ride

New, upgradeable items are on the way later this month.

Rocket League will soon introduce new types of items to customize your vehicle with, developer Psyonix has announced.

The June update introduces two new styles of items, each with their own special property. The first of these is Painted items, which apply a new color to existing items. Initially, these will only be available for selected wheels and toppers. If you earn a Painted version of an item, a color will be randomly assigned to it, such as titanium white or burnt sienna.

Certified items are the other new type, and those familiar with Team Fortress 2's Strange items will immediately understand what they're about. These come with a specific stat they track (but only in online casual/competitive matches) and have a prefix that is upgraded over time.

The example Psyonix provides is a Sniper Wizard Hat, which tracks the number of long goals scored with it equipped. After hitting certain milestones, it'll become a Skillful Sniper Wizard Hat, an Incredible Sniper Wizard Hat, and so on from there. These prefixes differ based on the accomplishment being tracked, and each stat has its own milestones--more difficult tasks won't require as many to earn a new prefix.

Psyonix teased that it'll be sharing more details next week on how Rocket League's item system will soon expand even further.

The June update is shaping up to be a big one; it adds Dying Light-themed items, a new experimental map, post-game spotlights, and new quick-chat commands.
