More details coming soon.

Rocket League is currently only available digitally, but people wanting to own a physical copy of the car soccer game will be able to buy one at retail later this year.

The news was announced by Psyonix Studios vice president Jeremy Dunham on today's episode of Kinda Funny Games' Colin and Greg Live. He mentioned that the deal was signed this week, and we'll hear more news soon.

"We're going to be announcing very soon that Rocket League's coming to retail," announced Dunham. "We're going to be talking about who our partner is, when [you] can expect to see it, and what comes in that package."

The official Rocket League Facebook page confirmed the news and said Psyonix will "make sure the retail version is special." The developer also mentioned that the Mac version "is getting closer," but it did not give a firm release date.

Additionally, Dunham said on Colin and Greg Live that they're hoping to release more new Rocket League content this year.

"Awards season is almost over. We're going to be at SXSW for that and then a couple other ones," Dunham said. "Once that's done we're going to really start focusing on the game."

Rocket League is available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Dunham recently talked with Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb about Psyonix's esports strategy for Rocket League.

Damn it! I just bought the game since it's on sale this week too. Given a choice between digital or physical, I will always choose physical. If only the news would have come sooner.

i know quite a few mac users who are more than pissed off at the company. nothing against pc users but there are many of us who wished to play the game ages ago but prefer to use a mac for work instead of a pc. if u look at grrm at least the dude has the balls to admit that hes late and cant meet fans expectations where as this bs company keep spinning ambiguous excuses after excuses and misled fans on a string. it's quite obvious that despite the bs claims last year the mac release was never high on their priority list, instead they choose to deploy this bs marketing strategy to try and trick mac users into keeping hopes up. **** psyonix!

@jimmyfingerz: Look into Boot Camp. You can go wisdom of solomon on your hard drive - Mac for your work, Windows for your games.

@jimmyfingerz: It's your fault, you bought the computer knowing mac isn't a good gaming pc, stop blaming it on others, you made a stupid mistake.

the greedy bastards have lost all credibility in my eyes. they said they'd release the mac version way back in Q3 2015 and look where we are now. even worse is the bullshit excuses they've dished out of reddit, why not simply state cash rules and be done with. Such a BS company.

@jimmyfingerz: They're "greedy" yet they haven't released on Mac yet? Kind of an oxymoron. If they wanted money, they would have released it. Probably have faced some hiccups and want to release the best version they can. Would you want to experience what Xbox One users did when they released the Master Chief Collection before it was ready? Just be patient. They want your money, and they're probably working on it as we speak.

@myhomieyoda: I understand. There are definitely some pros to physical games. But you can let your friends play your game, even if it's digital, through SharePlay. Of course, if you have a PS4.

Reselling your game is a plus for physical.

On the topic of price though, digital and physical prices are absolutely 100% equal. Prices at launch, and about a month after launch, are equal. Then prices drop for physical games, especially on Amazon. But there are tons of sales for digital games, and not just on the PC. Xbox Live doesn't have the best sales, but they do have them. PlayStation Network is a different story though. They have an average of 2-3 sales a week. And, yes, that's more than a handful of games with bad sales. Just look at what I have bought digitally on the PS Store in the last two months:

GTA V- $31

Wolfenstein The New Order- $9

Wolfenstein The Old Blood- $4

Borderlands The Handsome Collection- $27

Battlefield 4- $12

Tales from the Borderlands (Telltale)- $6

Star Wars Battlefront- $30

The Witcher 3- $25

Need For Speed- $20

Project Cars- $16

Battlefield Hardline- $13

Watch Dogs- $20

Rocket League- $12

Dishonored Definitive Edition- $15

Metal Gear Solid The Phantom Pain- $30

So, as you can see, these digital prices aren't bad at all. And I'm not cherry picking these prices either.

@battlestreak: well share play is no where near like giving a game to your friend to play lol you only get an hour or so to play on share play plus you have to be on to let them play it and yes like i said physical is always cheaper after launch ( a couple months or so) and you get money back when you dont want to play it any more ...... why are we arguing its not an opinion its a fact

@myhomieyoda: Maybe SharePlay wasn't the right feature I was talking about. There is something like this in place, where you both own the game though. It doesn't beat sharing a physical game, except the person you lend it to can't lose the game.

In terms of price, it is a fact that digital and physical prices are equal. It is a fact, whether you like it or not. Lets compare some games here. Physical and digital.

The Witcher 3- Average physical price: $40 Digital price on sale: $25

Fallout 4- Average physical price: $40 Digital price on sale: $40

Metal Gear Solid The Phantom Pain- Average physical price- $45 Average digital price on sale: $30

GTA V- Average physical price- $40 Average digital on sale- $39

Battlefield 4- Average physical price- $25 Average digital on sale- $12

Sorry, but it's the facts. Check for yourself. I got all my physical prices from Amazon, which tends to be the cheapest place to buy physical games. Of course physical games are cheaper than digital games, when the digital game isn't on sale. But sales happen so often now, that the sides are even.

@battlestreak: so all that just for one of your last sentences to be "Of course physical games are cheaper than digital games, when the digital game isn't on sale" lol of course if there is a sale price its going to be better than the regular price hahahah any ways looks like i found myself in the wrong argument

@myhomieyoda: But if you see a sale for a physical game, it's equal to the digital sale price. It's the fact.

Listen. The facts are the facts. You prefer physical games? Fine. That's perfectly fine. But you can't deny the facts. I'm not saying digital games are cheaper than physical games, I never have. I'm saying the prices are equal, or at least incrdibly close to being equal.
