Rocket League Adding 4K, 60 FPS Support With PS4 Pro Patch

New Hot Wheels content is on the way, too.

PlayStation 4 Pro support is on the way for Rocket League, developer Psyonix announced today.

Slated for release next week, the update allows the game to run at 4K and 60 FPS on a PS4 Pro, or 1080p and 60 FPS on a standard PS4. This is true for every arena in the game in both single-screen and two-player split-screen modes. When playing split screen with three or four players, you'll see a 60 FPS framerate in "most arenas at the same resolutions," according to a PlayStation Blog post.

Psyonix said last year that it was investigating the possibility of a PS4 Pro patch, but it never committed to releasing one. You can see all the games with Pro patches here. Without one, games don't benefit from its additional horsepower, although a new feature called Boost mode can offer improvements.

This update brings more than just technical improvements. There are other bug fixes and optimizations for performance issues, as well as a new Player's Choice crate that consists of items voted on by the community.

Additionally, there are new Hot Wheels-themed items to obtain post-match (such as Toppers and Antennas). Those will be free, but two new Hot Wheels DLC vehicles will be sold on their own.

All of this arrives in an update on February 21. Psyonix noted this is "just the first of many planned content updates for Rocket League in 2017."
