EA teamed up with Hasbro back in 2007, and a notable omission from the duo's collaboration has been the classic global domination strategy board game Risk. However, that oversight will soon be rectified, as EA Play has announced that Risk: Factions will be released on Xbox Live Arcade in early 2010.

EA will be taking some liberties with the classic Risk formula in Factions by introducing a humorous bent. Players can pick from one of five different off-kilter factions, each with its own unusual personality, strengths, and weaknesses. Beyond the traditional turn-based conquer-the-world gameplay mode, Factions also features a variety of objective-based missions, as well as new maps and terrain.

Risk: Factions is in development at Stainless Games, whose previous credits include Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers. The game's new animated look comes courtesy of Power House Animation, which has crafted cinematics for such games as Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. EA Play did not reveal pricing or rating information for Risk: Factions.
