[UPDATE AND CORRECTION: Rise of the Tomb Raider actually received a total of nine nominations, leading all others, including one for overall Game of the Year. GameSpot regrets the error]

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences on Wednesday announced the full list of nominees for the upcoming 19th annual D.I.C.E. Awards. Leading the way was Rise of the Tomb Raider, which secured nine total nominations, including one for overall Game of the Year.

No Caption Provided

The other games nominated for Game of the Year include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, and Ori and the Blind Forest.

Games that also received multiple nominations this year include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (eight) Ori and the Blind Forest (six), Fallout 4 (five), as well as Her Story, The Order: 1886, and Star Wars Battlefront (four each).

Batman: Arkham Knight, Destiny: The Taken King, Rocket League, Lara Croft Go, Life is Strange, and Undertale received three nominations each.

Winners will be revealed during an awards ceremony on Thursday, February 18, in Las Vegas. Comedian Pete Holmes returns from last year as the show's host.

In addition, event organizers announced today that the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will be honored during the event with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He joins an ultra-exclusive club, as only five other people have been given that award, including Bing Gordon (EA founder), Doug Lowenstein (ESA founder), Ken Kutaragi (former PlayStation president), Minoru Arakawa (former Nintendo of America president), and Howard Lincoln (former Nintendo of America chairman).

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the awards show.

The full list of categories and nominees for the 19th annual D.I.C.E. Awards is below, as compiled by Polygon.

Nice to see the industry taking control and providing justice where it is due as opposed to that ridiculous YouTube show or most media outlets.

Give The Witcher the 8 categories it is in, and the rest I don't really care! haha

Ill be ok with either witcher or rottr grabbing goty here. Not sure why battlefront is even mentioned anywhere. What a disappointment it was.

Sad that halo 5 is only on here once. besides it having a short campaign it was still a good one and the multiplayer is fantastic. Sad that its not getting its Recognition that it should.

People complaining about Destiny and yet its on here lol

@jako998: Yeah Halo 5 should definatly get nominated for a couple more awards. It is one of the most technically sound games released in 2015 and the sound design is awesome and as always has an epic original score. I don't know where they get off nominating Destiny or Battlefront for anything lol. I guess its easier to jump aboard the hype train than get in its way.

I'll just be happy if it wins Best Online Gameplay. That is where it really shines and without a doubt deserves to win

I honestly Hope Fallout 4 or Bloodborne Wins GOTY, although all the nominees are great games in their own right.

@Solid_Answers12: Depends who you ask I guess. As much as I enjoyed the Witcher, I found Fallout 4 to much more engrossing. It would come down to that or Bloodborne if it were my choice.

Lol I guess that is why I am still playing Fallout 4 and the Witcher 3 has been sitting on my shelf since I Finished it. But hey different strokes for differnet folks. Now enough has been said!

Overall package, RoTR is the winner (Ori was awesome, but not on the level of the AAAs); Witcher was more ambitious but had far more gameplay issues than the clean TR and Witcher's real strength, atmosphere, is most muted by the almost equal atmosphere of RoTR. Witcher was an impressive game, and no one will ever convince a fanboy (or the non-X1 gamers who haven't played RoTR yet), but objectively, RoTR is the winner here as Witcher comes with far too many problems...for me, it's astonishing that it is mentioned in the category at all, and a well-deserved testament to world creation CDPR did...now if they just would have fixed the combat, inventory, skills, movement, horse, font, framerate in the swamp or Novigrad....well, I digress :)

Avatar image for bravenz

@Daelusca: You still think combat is broken? I like the combat style, you're just a noob if you think it's broke. Inventory's broken? Skills? Wtf are you on about, you are clearly a dumb hater. Go play minecraft!

@bravenz: Nevermind idiot.....just checked your comments....122 and each and every one a troll...and it seems you take offence that everybody calls you a troll....hysterical...I'm assuming you have no friends (that's more than an assumption) and seek or think about therapy often....don't worry, a career in retail isn't that bad I understand....lol...definition of a troll is someone that has nothing good to say...and sometimes waits a month or more to say it...lolol...gotta be 1 sad little life :)

Avatar image for adamus
adamus

@Daelusca: most of what you moaned about has been patched and because you lack skill in the combat doesnt mean its broken. get good. i like TR but its not in the same league as the Witcher on any level. placing a tank top wearing pretty girl in stupid situations constantly with no freedom to make your own choice in the story and always having to kill everyone to proceed or sneak past them. no where near the level of Witcher.

Avatar image for Daelusca
Daelusca

@adamus: I love fanboys, sooo much fun. Firstly I played the last TR, that was an average game made much worse by CD making Lara nothing more than eye candy; they corrected that teenage garbage in this game in a big way...and kudos to them.

Get good at RPG combat....lol....are you 13 or 14? I beat the game on Death March without breaking a sweat...combat in this game is clunky, imprecise, broken, not hard fool.

Your choices in Witcher are what exactly? Choices that matter to the endgame....what exactly? Whether you clean the old woman's frying pan? Whether you track down the Gwent cards for Zoltan? Whether you romance Triss or Gwen...or maybe both and get to see them both naked.....don't worry, some day it is possible you will get a real girl....well, maybe not.

And your chalice...all the broken stuff most people had to live with "has been patched"....well, that makes it all better....idiot. I am being as objective as one can be when speaking about entertainment; from a gameplay mechanics perspective, RoTR was far, far superior to Witcher....as were just about every other game released in 2015....it was bad gameplay wise. It was phenomenally strong from at atmosphere perspective....the only game that came close in 2015 was RoTR.

On behalf of CD I sincerely apologize that there was no nudity in RoTR and we will lobby on your behalf to get some put in the DLC :)

@Daelusca: the witcher 3 is the superior game , get over it

Avatar image for Daelusca
Daelusca

@razecah12: That is an opinion...and like,...well, let's just say we all have one....and, here's the kicker for you...try to follow along....most GOTY's are based on popularity....and as most gamers haven't yet been able to play RoTR....do I need to say it or can you piece it together from there.....hit me back if you are still confused :)

Forgive me for not replying to each of your similar posts individually; I get it, you're a Witcher fanboy...believe me, I get it....it's like arguing with a DS fanboy.....I am certain there are as many, or more deluded fanboys in other genres, but I basically play RPG's, so I get,,, well, you :)

Avatar image for adamus

@Daelusca: lmao wow what a rant and you have the nerve to call me a fanboy you have got angry over a comment not me. why be so abusive? is it because i questioned your skill? you say all this crap about the game trying to make it look bad when all you have done is make yourself look like a child. you can moan all you want it will not change the FACT that the Witcher is a far superior game than Tomb Raider nothing you say will change that so please rant on some more with your childish replies.

how can you even compare the combat you massacre endless mercs in tomb raider with guns and a bow dipping in and out of cover which has been done a thousand times or you pick up the same bottle on every corner and throw it at retards that follow little noises hardly ground breaking. i dont even need to say more the reviews and the endless fans of the game say it all you stick with your Lara Croft eye candy and try harder to make it sound better than it is you are not fooling anyone here.

(spoilers)

you try and say the choices you make in the game do not matter? the choice you make with the bloody baron decides whether he and his wife live or die. the choice you get from Diijkstra to either stay and help Ves and Roche or walk away and let them be slaughtered so Diijkstra has control of what happens to Temeria. the out come with Ciri based on how you interacted with her will she be empress or a witcher. there are endless situations in the game where your actions change what happens not all impact endgame but quite a few do so please stop spitting bs that is not even true.

Avatar image for Daelusca
Daelusca

@adamus: Rant? I am having fun with this little conversation...it's always entertaining to see how fanboys "think". Preytell what exactly am I a fanboy of? Certainly not RoTR, I put it first among equals of 4 games this year; and remain objective enough to note the gameplay mechanics are far, far superior to Witcher....it isn't close and it is objective...RoTR didn't patch it's gameplay...Witcher has patched theirs many times...within 2 weeks...when you are arguing against facts you need to take a step back and try to think....I know, I know....

I have to wonder if you aren't a pony and haven't actually played RoTR...you have the option to avoid most of the fighting if you so chose; that said you can approach it however you want...and unlike Witcher the baddies won't get glitched in a massive gate they can't get through so you can stand right on the other side and pick them all off......combat in Witcher is garbage...full stop. Note, as I have continuously stated, I still think it was a fantastic game, but I know, a fanboy doesn't see everything as positive and hell hath no fury and all that :)

Endgame...endgame!!!!! Changing Ciri's occupation (or otherwise) AFTER the game is over is completely irrelevant.....you need to do the exact same things to get there.....that's like saying in Deus Ex, just because you can select 1 of 4 different endings that your choices matter....yeah, on what cutscene plays.....only an idiot can credit that. Witcher is a narrative driven game that allows you to stray very little from the linear path; yes there are sidequests, but no sandbox...you can't build, customize or otherwise make the world your own (nor can you in RoTR)....go back to your fantasy world...hey, I am glad you found complete delusion, I mean immersion, in Witcher...that is why we game.

Avatar image for adamus

@Daelusca: i really cant be bothered with you. you resort to childish insults every time calling people pony fanboy assuming i have no girl and you clearly think you are right about everything. TR is a good game Witcher is a great game have a nice day.

Avatar image for Daelusca
Daelusca

@adamus: lol....2 questions for you, which person sounds like they" clearly think they are right about everything"..the person who admits both games are great, but believes one is slightly better (first among equals) based on superior gameplay mechanics, or the guy who thinks one of the games "is a far superior game"? Take a minute...

Question 2....do you even own an X1? I have read your posts and you post on PS4 stories....have you played RoTR??

Avatar image for adamus
adamus

@Daelusca: there you go again assuming you know me and what i have just **** off already no one cares.

just adding one more thing you said in a previous comment that TR was a far far superior game to the Witcher then you say both games are great make up your mind and stop lying.

Avatar image for Daelusca
Daelusca

@adamus: lol...so I will take that as a "no" you do not have an X1 and have not played RoTR, the game you are saying is far worse than Witcher....like I started out with, you fanboys crack me up.

As to me saying RoTR was far, far superior to Witcher, I am not certain if you have the ability to differentiate between what you accused me of saying and what I actually said, but they are not the same thing. I said they were in my top 4 games of the year...I said Witcher was a great game...I said, from an atmosphere perspective Witcher is the best game I have played this year, I said from a gameplay mechanics perspective RoTR was far, far superior to Witcher....Witcher, the game that had 200 fixes in the first 2 weeks.....seems like a pretty valid point.....just saying.

Now pay better attention to your teacher as your ability to think on the fly is not very good...thanks for the laughs :)

Avatar image for bravenz

@Daelusca: Yuo cant really put 2 different games with 2 different game mechanics in the same bowl, buddy. It doesnt matter how many fixes a game recived, The witcher is a really big game and there is no game out there that comes out perfect anyway.

I hope Battlefront wins some category just so that I can say that DICE got a D.I.C.E. award, which would be a funny coincidence.

But, really, The Witcher 3 has a great chance to win big here and any category it wins is well deserved.
