Microsoft Game Studios has today announced that it will give away 1,000 copies of the Rise of Nations beta in a competition that will launch on the game's official site this Friday.

The beta version of Rise of Nations that's being given away will allow the competition winners to play with 10 of the 18 nations that will be included in the final game, and it will feature three tutorials in addition to a full "conquer the world" campaign. Winners will also automatically qualify for the official beta test, giving them access to official beta updates and newsgroups.

Rise of Nations, which is currently in development at Big Huge Games, is a real-time strategy game in which individual campaigns can span some 6,000 years of history. The game is scheduled for release in North America on April 22 and in Europe on May 2. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the game.

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.
