"Merc City is a show that will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick Universe," he said. The show will be produced by a new TV subsidiary of Diesel's own One Race Films production company.

Concerning the new Riddick movie, Diesel said director David Twohy will start writing Furia in December.

The name Furia suggests the movie will involve the Furyans. Riddick the character is one of the only surviving members of the Furyans. The TV show Merc City also sounds like it has some strong potential.

2013's Riddick was the most recent entry in the series; it generated more than $98 million in worldwide box office receipts. Diesel's other upcoming projects includeFurious 8 and XXX: The Return of Xander Cage.

As for Riddick games, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was released in 2004 for the original Xbox and PC, while sequel Assault on Dark Athena launched in 2009 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. A mobile game called Riddick: The Merc Files was released in 2013.

No new games in the series have been announced.

I've watched them all, and just not a fan. Pitch black is probably the only one I enjoyed (though it wasn't in the chronicles).

the game wasnt bad at all, and helped fill in some gaps to accompany the films

The Butcher Bay game was pretty awesome. I would rather have 8 Riddick movies than Fast & Furious.

Avatar image for chewbacca72

The story line in Riddick was there, acting was passable, but the special effects reminded me of Krull or Flash Gordon.

Avatar image for itchyflop

@chewbacca72: the chronicles of riddick is the better of the 3, in my opinion, and completely different from the 1st .

ha krull, a young liam neeson was in that.

I love this character.... the last movie was not so good,,, at least was waiting for more action on the movie, but was ok.

I hope we could have a new game... I love the on for PC long time ago... was very good!

New Riddick movie, hell yeah! The last one was pretty sucky, so I hope it's up to Chronicles of Riddick standard. That movie is so lame in such a good way.

Avatar image for deivis_sc

Really like Riddick's universe, so I'm exited about new movie, TV show sounds it might be pretty interesting too, but I have a feeling they might mess it up. But what would be more awesome is new game. By the same company who made EFBB would be even more awesome, since I think they are one of the few who can get it right. Prolly won't happen any time soon. Or at all. Or if we get Riddick game it will be some crappy movie cash-in.

Avatar image for domiddian

@deivis_sc: Ahem... "Prolly"?

Avatar image for kalarro

F. yeah! I love the riddick movies.

Avatar image for Baelath

As long as the new movie is a sequel to the Director's Cut of Chronicles of Riddick, I'm all for it. 110%.

Avatar image for Barighm

@Baelath: What's so special about the director's cut?

Avatar image for shadedwraithx

A new PC or multi-platform game would be cool.

Avatar image for DrunkenPunk800

I'd like a new game. EFBB was amazing.

Avatar image for yabbie442

I hope this new film is more like Chronicals. The last one was crap.

Avatar image for notjustin

the movies and the games where both great I even al most picked up his daggers on ebay that's how much I enjoyed that movie

Avatar image for deactivated-5c79c3cfce222

Pitch Black and Riddick are alright. Hopefully these two new things will be too.

Avatar image for barrybarryk

If you haven't played the Riddick games, you really should get on that.

I like how after enough hateful comments came about Gamespot being a game site so "what's all the news about movies" ("enough" still being a vocal minority), the article now implants "oh btw here's some news about the games too" to the end.

Smooth :D

Vin Diesel is really putting the reboot/sequel pedal to the metal, but I don't mind. I liked all the Riddick movies and the XXX movies were fun as well.

Avatar image for domiddian

@Ohem1: What's wrong with anal? As long as you're the one giving and not receiving and the recipient is a human female, there's nothing wrong with it.

Avatar image for Hurvl

@Ohem1: Oh, I just knew that someone would take the bait on that, heh. (Un)fortunately, there is no other way to write about that franchise without it causing odd associations. There's not very much sex in those movies (with Vin Diesel and Ice Cube), which makes the "xxx" thing kind of misplaced, though.

Avatar image for dunc7827

@Hurvl: xXx or Triple x could have been used lol

Avatar image for RogerioFM

I liked the lore and the universe, now they just need to do something good with it.

Avatar image for GhoX

Escape from Butcher Bay is arguably THE best movie-based game ever made.

And its devs have since then created some very high quality titles like The Darkness and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

Avatar image for Barighm

@GhoX: It wasn't really a movie game though. It was its own property that stood proudly on its own without needing to meet a deadline. It wasn't just some tie-in.

Avatar image for gargungulunk

The 3rd movie was great! A return to the isolated environments and small crew.

I'm wary of what a tv-show could be like, the second movie fell apart when trying to be too much...the city and lore just felt like Sci-Fy channel, it went on about a half-hour too long...but maybe it's grown since then.

Avatar image for xcrimsonxsynx

Riddick has always been mediocre at best. Hopefully, they take their time and do it right.

Avatar image for xolivierx

Riddick is a very bad franchise. Had they cast different actors, chances are it would have been awesome

Avatar image for swedishfriend

@xolivierx: These films only happen when Vin Diesel and writer / director David Twohy can get the right idea and funding together. I think it shows in their unique qualities and high consistency / quality.

Avatar image for redeemer6666

@xolivierx: Shits like marmite.

You love it or hate it.

Avatar image for RedWave247

@xolivierx: Without Vin Diesel, though, it's not really Riddick.

Avatar image for sirk1264

I like all the Riddick movies but like pitch black and Riddick more than chronicles. Pitch black will always be my favorite though. Looking forward to the fourth movie.

Avatar image for cornbredx

They're doing a new XXX movie? Weird.

I still haven't seen the last Riddick movie. Everyone who talks about it is meh about it. I do generally like the Riddick films. They're all sub par movies, but at least the original two were fun. I should watch the new one.

Avatar image for swedishfriend

@cornbredx: I think all three have been way better than it seems possible for what they try to do. Truly works of love and passion to do their own thing. Pitch Black is clearly the most dark one but they each have their own special thing going while keeping true to the universe and the bad-ass character that Riddick is shown as. Also the director's cuts of the films are noticeably better than what was shown in most theaters which may explain some of the random love / hate for especially the second and third films.

Avatar image for Mogan

@cornbredx: It's terrible. I didn't think it could get worse than Chronicles, but it totally. It's like Doom bad. Maybe worse.

Avatar image for xcrimsonxsynx

@cornbredx: Much better than Chronicles. You can get it dirt cheap and you won't feel like it was wasted.

Avatar image for nadsat-77

Escape From Butcher Bay and Assalt on Dark Athena were a blast!

More, more..

Avatar image for davillain-

I hope there's a new Butcher Bay game since I miss out on Xbox.

Avatar image for coldfusion25

I want a game, not a movie.

Avatar image for davillain-

@coldfusion25: Why can't we have both?

Avatar image for ember_to_flame

chronicles of riddick is the best one and the games were pretty good too.

Avatar image for swedishfriend

@ember_to_flame: I liked how goth the second film felt (I only saw the Director's Cut BTW). For me the second was the most mixed in quality but still better than it seems possible for its ambitions.

Avatar image for xsonicchaos

I like Chronicles of Riddick. There!

Avatar image for swedishfriend

@xsonicchaos: I only saw the Director's Cut and I liked it, especially for doing something different. It was like this goth / magical movie with some operatic themes done to a high level at doing its own particular thing. I hear the cuts were brutal to that film and the third as far as the quality of the final product. That may explain some of the more polarized feelings about those two. Pitch black just kicks ass as a scary movie though. The other two are special more than they are as great as Pitch Black but they are still the best of their kinds.

Avatar image for redeemer6666

@xsonicchaos: Bad movie, But it did have some damn good parts.

I dislike pretty much ALL the Necromonger bits, But that prison planet stuff was Sci-Fi as ****!

I love shit like that.
