Retail Radar: NHRA for PS3

GameFly listing suggests THQ is revving up the nitro-burning funny cars for Sony's newest console.

The PlayStation 3 already has a variety of racing games to choose from between Gran Turismo HD, Forumla One Championship Edition, Ridge Racer 7, and Need for Speed Carbon, but it so far lacks a dedicated drag racer. That could change soon, as online rental outlet GameFly has a listing for a game called NHRA Countdown to the Championship from THQ.

The National Hot Rod Association license has been used in several games already, most recently with the THQ-published PlayStation 2 game NHRA Championship Drag Racing in 2005. "Countdown to the Championship" is the NHRA's name for its new season format whereby the field of potential champions in each of its race classes is reduced in staggered steps throughout the year.

GameFly expects NHRA Countdown to the Championship to ship in June. As of press time, a THQ representative had not returned a request for comment.

Please note, while retailer listings frequently jump the gun on publishers' product announcements, they should not be taken as final confirmation of a game's existence; nor should the absence of a listing be considered as proof that a game isn't coming to a given platform.
