In a recent CNN/Money article discussing a surge in sales for games with war themes, the project leader for the Desert Combat mod, Frank DeLise, is quoted as saying that several publishers have expressed interest in the Battlefield 1942 mod. A new free version of Desert Combat is expected next week that will add new vehicles--notably a SCUD missile launcher for the Iraqi side and the A-10 for the US--but DeLise said that the mod may make the jump to being an expansion pack.

An EA representative close to the Battlefield 1942 franchise mentioned that, while the publisher is fully supportive of the mod community, he was not aware of any plans by EA for releasing Desert Combat.
