Now Playing: GS News Update: Resident Evil HD Versions Sell 1.5 Million Copies

Capcom's latest Resident Evil HD re-releases were a big hit, it seems. The publisher has announced that the new versions of Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have collectively shipped 1.5 million copies worldwide.

This was announced in a tweet, in which Capcom also thanked fans for supporting the franchise. Importantly, this is the number of copies shipped, not sold through to consumers.

The Resident Evil 6 remaster came out in March, with 5 launching in June and 4 coming out in August to complete the new HD trilogy. The games are available physically and digitally in North America and sell for $20 each.

North America makes up the lion's share of shipments, coming in at 1 million units, Capcom said in a press release. The publisher also boasted that the Resident Evil franchise now stands at 69 million units sold worldwide across 111 different games.

Capcom is no stranger to HD re-releases, as the company has also put out remastered versions of the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0. A Resident Evil 2 remake is also on the way. Outside of that franchise, Capcom launched Dead Rising 1 and 2 on new-generation consoles.

You can probably expect more. Capcom said in May 2015 that it was encouraged by the success of Resident Evil HD remastered version so much so that HD remasters and re-releases would become a key area of growth for the company.

2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, as the first game debuted in 1996 in Japan. The Pokemon and Tomb Raider franchises also celebrate their 20th birthdays this year.

I love how the internet is completely wrong about the resident evil series :)

Is there even any difference between these and the PS3 versions of them? I already have all of these on PS3

Avatar image for urbanman2004

@rhenom: Nope.. It's just an upscaled version on current gen consoles

I'd like to play 4 since I never have but I'm not paying money for the other two.

Played 5 a bit and it is really not my thing. 6 just looks straight up trash and I don't even want it in my library.

@dexda: You shouldn't play any of these since clearly you don't like them. RE6 didn't get great reviews, but it's far from "trash" I think you should just not play and video games at all and just bash them in internet comments sections without playing them. That seems like it would fit you just fine.

@rhenom: Well, I've played Resident Evil 6. It's one of the worst fucking games I've ever played in my life. 5 also sucked.

Dexda, you're right to play 4 and skip the other two. 4 is a masterpiece.

"111 different games".

That's not how they call them on their investor site. They call them "titles", meaning all the versions combined, I presume.

What about REmake and 0 HD collection?

They don't count?

Nice. I picked up one of each of those games myself and really enjoyed them. I'm very much looking forward to the Resident Evil 2 remake.

Put 4,5,6 into a collection and I'll buy them

Avatar image for renegade67rick

@Supabul: they are in a collection, or you can buy separate. Either way you will pay the same. Never figured that out, you buy collection for 59.99, or each alone for 19.99 (which save u 2cents buying separate than as a collection) never made sense.

Retail collection, I don't like buying digital games, plus retail games go down in price way faster, so just like Batman Arkham and Bioshock, I'll pick them up when cheaper

I wouldn't pay €60 for it

Batman is €50 digital its €34 retail

@Supabul: Glad I'm not the only one who gets this.

I feel sorry for people who pay PSN prices day one and think it is a good deal. I'd feel physically sick paying that sort of cash for some of the shit games this gen.

@renegade67rick: he probably means on a single disc (though i don't know if they would all fit. maybe?)
