An announcement trailer for Resident Evil Village was released back in June. Producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Pete Fabiano's interview with Famitsu, translated by Alex Aniel, also revealed more about this new addition to Capcom's popular horror franchise. Resident Evil Village will conclude Ethan's story that started in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. They also commented that the title underscores village because there is "another protagonist" in the game and don't want the game to be known as Resident Evil 8. That hasn't stopped a copycat game from trying to use the Biohazard Village name for its own title. Naturally, it was removed from Steam nearly immediately.

Resident Evil Village releases in 2021 on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC. Tokyo Game Show in its entirety will take place entirely online during September 23-27. Like many other games events, the physical show has been cancelled.
