Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Will Be Released Episodically

Capcom will release the game's four chapters on a weekly basis before launching physical disc version.

Capcom announced today that upcoming zombie-themed game Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will be released episodically, somewhat like Telltale Games' popular Walking Dead series.

Building on the way in which the original Resident Evil: Revelations told its story across TV-like episodes, the sequel takes things further. The game is composed of four main chapters, each of which will be released as individual episodes--one per week.

No Caption Provided

Episodes will sell for $6 each, or you can buy the "Complete Season" for $25. If you bought every episode individually, it would cost $24. So what does spending the extra dollar get you?

This bundle includes the four chapters and some "additional game content," which will be announced later. Once the four episodes are released, Capcom will launch a disc-based version of Revelations 2, featuring the four chapters and additional content, for $40.

Capcom adds that the retail disc version of Revelations 2 will include "further gameplay content" on top of the additional content included with the Complete Season.

Revelations 2 aims to keep you hooked like a TV show, in that each weekly episode will end on a cliffhanger. This should "spur further conversation and speculation," Capcom says.

The game is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. As was previously rumored, the game follows Claire Redfield and Barry Burton's daughter, Moira Burton. Here is how Capcom sets up the story for the first episode:

"The party is crashed, Claire and Moira are knocked unconscious and taken to a mysterious detention center located on an island. They soon encounter demented, writhing enemies called Afflicted roaming the halls of this abandoned facility, and have to team up to survive. The real question is, who brought them here? And... why?"

As long as they stick to their weekly schedule I'm fine with it, pull a Telltale-esque delay and I'm out.

I don't like that idea, I'd rather just have it all in one from the get-go. Oh, I guess you can, but we'd still have to wait a week? If that's the case, that's pretty dumb.

There is reason why teletale was making episodic games, because they were working slowly and making 1 episode each 1-2 month, They release episode each week, so game will be finished fully when we'l see episode 1 So this episodic Money squish bag is BS.

If there will be 6 episode and each will cost 10$ i'm in maybe, but that's less likely it's CRAPCOM.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's a total of 4 episodes and each is $5. Full cost is $25 without season pass, $30 with season pass that includes extra content and $40 for physical release afterwards.

A game that costs $30 on digital and $40 on retail and people still complain. I don't have ill feelings about episodical releases unless done badly (Half-Life: Episode 2 released 7 years ago and still no resolve for the cliffhanger ending.) so that might count. But we have to wait and see if this is good or bad idea. Lower cost is, at least to me, a good decision.

REALLY!?!?!?! WTF CAPCOM! Why do this? What is the point of that? Now I'm the biggest RE fan ever but I don't do digital games. & on top of that I'll get extra content for a $40 tag? I'll wait for the disc to come out. Capcom I hate to say it but you guys just aren't the same good company I've come to love. You guys used to be my favorite publisher but your business practices over the last 10yrs have made me question that.

Capcom is once again putting a bad taste in gamers and fans mouths. If they are taking fan feedback into consideration and "listening" to us, who would have possibly asked for an episodic Resident Evil game split across 4 installments?!! I have been a Capcom fan since the 80's but this move could backfire. I am not doing the weekly episode thing for "Resident Evil: Revelations 2". I will wait for the retail release. The game is looking great. Let's hope that it delivers. But with 4 weekly episodes that would mean that we will have to wait at least a month for the retail release. I'll wait because I like my hard copies of video games.

Between the lines : Give me money. And oh, you'll have to paid extra for DLC but that comes later.

Ugh really??? I mean it's not that expensive, but honestly I was hoping for a full experience, this just sounds like a cheap arcade title. What a disappointment, if I do get it, I'll just wait for the retail release.

And there goes my pre-order.

Knew it was too good to be true. God damn MORONS.

The episodic formula of Revelations worked, it worked quite well. Know why? Because you could play THE WHOLE GAME whenever you wanted to. You didn't have to wait.

Fix this right now. I know RE4 fake fan kids are going to support this anyway but SERIOUSLY!?

Good move Capcom. guess you are really trying to sink resident evil. the thing is that to be divided in 4 chapters, they need to make a screenplay more like tv show. even when games are released once and has its chapters inside, it's a different way to make the screenplay. so thank you capcom, for sinking resident evil for good =(

If I were Capcom and decided to do an episodic game (I for one think it's a fair idea for the series), I would offer the first episode for free.

People complained about the series being dragged into the AAA market where it doesn't belong... So when news like this suggesting RE is coming back to its B-budget roots, I wouldn't have expected this kind of backlash.

The envoys brought them here so they can team up with the local Canthans to fight off Shiro and the afflicted. But that doesn't happen until the second chapter called Factions.

No, wait. Wrong game.

hmm ...episodically?.. sounds like a pretty dumb idea.. but as long as it's more like the original RE1- 3 games.. with actual survival horror elements.... i'll pick it up.. when it's in disc form... and the price drops to around $25

I saw some leaked screenshots of this game that actually showed the gameplay and apparently this will be a "real" survival horror resident evil game with static camera angles and everything.

I know the whole weekly episodes thing is compete bs but I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far with my favorite character Claire finally returning.

I really hope Capcom actually listened to what the fans wanted for once.

well i wont bother with this then. i was under the impression it was going to be a normal resi game, but this episodic stuff isnt for me as id much prefer them to make a full normal resident evil for just 1 more time at least. is it really too much to ask them to make a propper resident evil for once.

can anyone confirm if resident evil revelations was actually good as the only reason i didnt get it was because it was a handheld game and i thaught it might not have been good on ps3?

<< LINK REMOVED >> revelations had these problems in my opinion:

1. bad story with bad characters

2. checkpoints everywhere

3. most of the part you have an AI partner

4. some bugs ( I have played the pc version )

5. too much bullets

Revelations was an okay game but not as good as everyone makes it out to be. If you buy the game expecting it to be like the classic survival horror games than you'll be disappointed.

It plays too close to the action obsessed games like RE4-6 imo.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I strongly disagree with your statement. It was the old school RE games with RE 4-6 control scheme. By far the closest RE game to the old school RE games since Code Veronica. The only thing about the game I didn't like was that it didn't have as many puzzles as I would've liked. Other than that it was a good RE game.

@Henninger @Simulator_Shock i see there is some mixed feelings about it then xD. i think i will keep away from it as its a little late and i got rid of ps3 to get ps4. i know they are doing a re-do of the original gamecube version which will be great for people that have not played it but unfortunately for me, i played it to death on gamecube.(Resident evil zero was better though imo)

<< LINK REMOVED >> It doesn't actually. It plays like RE5 without a partner, without a lot of ammo, upgrades, easy to kill enemies, or QTEs. So, it's more like the first few minutes of RE4 stretched into an entire game.
