Resident Evil 7's Free Not A Hero DLC Brings Back A Major Character

"Not A Hero," the previously announced upcoming expansion pack for Resident Evil 7, will be released this spring on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Now, Capcom has confirmed that, as rumored, it will star a series veteran. The company made the announcement on its Twitter and Facebook pages, but we won't link them here since they contain major spoilers.

At the end of Resident Evil 7, Chris Redfield is revealed to be working for the Umbrella Corporation, according to Destructoid. He will be the focus of the Not A Hero DLC, which is free.

"Who or what is he chasing? Find out soon in this separate story," Capcom said in its announcement.

In one of the three Not A Hero screenshots that Capcom released, Chris Redfield is shown standing in front of some giant mass with a helicopter flying overhead and soldiers at his side. Not A Hero is the third piece of add-on content for Resident Evil 7, following the paid expansions Banned Footage Vol. 1 and Banned Footage Vol. 2, which are now available on all platforms.

@depman1972: Well the RE5 Chris didn't look anything like the original pixel-mush Chris either

It's a shame but I guess in conquest for photorealistic graphics these jarring jumps have to be made. I was kinda hoping this guy to be HUNK just so the actual Chris can still look like actual Chris

So, if it's a character design change (which I don't think it is) I don't mind. But the fact that they've got the new CGI film coming out in a few months with Chris's design the same as RE 5/6 has me skeptical.

Ok that is not chris redfield, this is what I dont understand, I loved resi 7, but has nothing to do with previous resis, the umbrella insignia was blue not red, and the redfield guy looks nothing like chris.

@depman1972: Yeah because theyre going for a more Western look than East. And he's not a boulder punching roid monster. It's Chris Redfield. And they changed the insignia because they're reformed and he's with them now.

@thereturnoftheg: both wrong. In game, the notes and diaries you find say that this game is set 9 years after the initial Raccoon City outbreak.

This game is a reboot, not a carry on from other games.

@onegamersperspective: No, it's not, this game takes place in 2017 which is nearly 20 years after the Raccoon City outbreak - In the boat part, which has been stranded for 3 years, you can find magazines that explicitly say that they are from 2014 (2014 + 3 = ?).

I cant find anywhere that says why they messed redfield up and colour of umbrella etc.

This has all the hallmarks of what they did to dante in devil may cry, they turned him from a silver haired tough mama in to a bieber lookalike.

@gamingdevil800: Well having barely survived one unbelievably supernatural catastrophe, and then having that happen again, and again. I think even I might resort to steroids after a trip like that.

Plus have to be a little mentally insane to go "Oh flying giant bats and apartment tall fat monsters in Africa? I'm in! I wanna save the globe!". Even after everyone else in the platoon was dead he didn't want to call in reinforcements or extraction. And after that volcano visit he just moved on beyond the Iron Curtain to fight even bigger creatures.

Chris is like modern Jesus. So ofc gotta be prepared.

Now here we had Ethan Winters who barely had the strength to open a door. I think he too will have another look at that pill bottle.

Very impressed with the main game and the fact that this DLC is free is giving more people who are still on the fence about purchasing the game extra incentive to go out and get it.

I’m curious to see how this DLC adds to the events that transpired in the main game (if they do at all.) although I have a pretty good idea where they may draw upon.

I’m also interested in seeing if the name of the DLC “Not a Hero” alludes to something of consequence that either happens in the DLC or possibly even in the main game. Guess we’ll find out this spring.

Either way I’m dying to get back in the survival-horror groove and this sounds like it might be the perfect excuse.

On an unrelated note Clancy has got to have some of the best lines in the RE series, lol. Had me cracking up.
