Resident Evil 4 - Savage Mutt Request Guide

Resident Evil 4 has several Merchant Requests that you can complete to earn Spinels. One of these is called A Savage Mutt, where you have to kill a mutated dog. It's stronger than the usual Plaga variant, so be prepared. Thankfully, there's also a way to cheese the battle. Here's our Resident Evil 4 Savage Mutt guide to help you complete this request.

Resident Evil 4 Savage Mutt Merchant Request guide

The Resident Evil 4 Savage Mutt request can be picked up once you've rescued Ashley (i.e., after completing the Church Puzzle). From the Church, you'll have to make your way back to the Village Square. Along the way, you'll meet up with the Merchant in one of his usual spots. The note can be found posted near the door.

Once you've acquired it, your map will tell you that the Savage Mutt can be found in the Village Chief's House, which was where you obtained the Insignia Key. If you backtrack to that location, you can have Ashley grab the ladder for you in the second-floor bedroom. The creature itself will spawn behind the main gate once you exit the house.

From there, you'll have to chase it back to the Village Square, which does have a lot of enemies. Thankfully, the Resident Evil 4 Savage Mutt encounter can be cheesed. As mentioned in our beginner's guide, you can go back and forth an exit gate to trick the AI, including this monster. This way, you can avoid most of its attacks, as well as any rampaging villagers nearby.

The key difference with the Savage Mutt is that it's significantly tougher compared to the Plagued Wolf variants, taking around a dozen shotgun blasts before it dies. Still, if you keep at it, and if you rush up when prompted to do melee knife strikes, you should be able to kill it. The only thing you'll want to watch out for is Ashley's positioning since she can end up within the tentacle's reach. In any case, return to the Merchant after completing the Resident Evil 4 Savage Mutt request to earn 8x Spinels for your troubles.
