Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster Sells 800,000 Copies

Capcom's latest remaster, Resident Evil 0 HD, has sold approximately 800,000 copies, the publisher has announced as part of its latest earnings report [PDF]. The game launched in January this year, and Capcom's reporting period ended March 31, so this only counts copies sold through then.

Additionally, Capcom mentioned the 800,000 figure when it was specifically talking about digital games. As such, this number may not include copies of the game sold via the Resident Evil Origins Collection, a physical bundle that included not only Resident Evil 0 HD, but also the Resident Evil 1 remaster.

Whatever the case, Capcom said Resident Evil 0 HD "performed favorably" (via VideoGamer.com).

The Resident Evil 1 remaster was released in January 2015. Capcom is currently working on a "full remake" of Resident Evil 2, though a release date for this game has not been announced.

In May 2015, Capcom said it was encouraged by the success of Resident Evil HD remastered version so much so that HD remasters and re-releases would become a key area of growth for the company.

Additionally, Capcom brought Resident Evil 6 to to PS4 and Xbox One earlier this year, while the company also plans to launch Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 for the same platforms in the time ahead.

2016 is the 20th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise. Beyond everything mentioned in this post, Capcom has also teased a "full-scale offensive" to celebrate the occasion. It could be that Capcom is planning a series of promotional activities to mark the milestone (like what's being done for Pokemon's anniversary), but some have also wondered if Capcom may finally announce the rumored Resident Evil 7.

Interestingly, just recently, Capcom announced that it is working on three unannounced games that will be released before April 2017. One of these games is expected to sell 4 million units in that window, suggesting it comes from an established franchise, though nothing yet links it to Resident Evil.
