The upcoming series will feature a Native female lead.

Reservation Dogs co-creator Sterlin Harjo is developing a new FX miniseries with a Native female lead, according to Variety. Plot details have not yet been released, but the show will reportedly be a heist-thriller miniseries.

Reservation Dogs was notable for exclusively featuring Indigenous writers and directors--along with an almost entirely Indigenous North American cast and production team. Reservation Dogs was renewed for Season 2 back in September, and recently won a Gotham Film Award for Breakthrough Series. Harjo co-created the series with Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit).

"As longtime friends, it was only natural that Taika and I found a project together, and what better than a show that celebrates the complementary storytelling styles of our Indigenous communities--mine in Oklahoma and Taika's in Aotearoa," said Harjo, when Reservation Dogs was announced in 2020. "We're thrilled by the opportunity to tell the Reservation Dogs' story with our amazing cast and crew."

Waititi has many projects on the horizon. In addition to the pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death, he's also developing two animated Charlie and the Chocolate Factory series for Netflix, co-producing the FX comedy Reservation Dogs, and is attached to a future Star Wars movie. Earlier this year, he wrapped production on the Marvel movie Thor: Love and Thunder, ahead of its February 2022 release.
