Red Dead Redemption Coming to Xbox One Via Backwards Compatibility This Week

It's finally happening.

Rockstar's acclaimed 2010 western Red Dead Redemption is coming to Xbox One this Friday, July 8, through the console's backwards compatibility program, Rockstar Games announced today.

No matter which version of the game you own--standard, Undead Nightmare, or the Game of the Year Edition--you'll be able to play the Xbox 360 game on Xbox One this Friday.

Red Dead Redemption is also on sale this week on Xbox 360 for $7.50 for Gold members; for everyone else, it's available for $10.50.

The game's official release on Xbox One comes after the game was discovered to be playable on the system earlier this year due to an error that Microsoft quickly fixed.

On the Xbox Feedback site, only two games have more votes to join the Xbox One's backwards compatibility catalog: Call of Duty: Black Ops II and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. With more than 148,000 votes, Red Dead Redemption was the No. 3 game on the list.

Developed by Rockstar San Diego, Red Dead Redemption was released in May 2010 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game received rave reviews, including a 9.5/10 from GameSpot.

A sequel is rumored to be in the works.
