Red Dead Online Adds New Single-Player Missions

Steal a horse, rob the mayor, and defend precious cargo in Red Dead Online's new single-player missions.

Red Dead Redemption II might not be getting any story DLC, but some new single-player missions are now available in its multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online.

Three more "solo play" missions have been added to Red Dead Online, Rockstar announced as part of this week's update. You can access these missions at the post office, with a mysterious person known as "J" providing you with these "A New Source of Employment" missions.

The missions--which are only available to play alone--involve things like stealing a valuable white Arabian racehorse, breaking in to the Mayor of Saint Denis' house to steal his jewels, and playing backup to someone carrying precious cargo. You can see the full names and descriptions for these missions below, as written by Rockstar Games.

Difficulty Levels And How To Access The Solo Missions

All three missions have three difficulty levels, while players who replay them will find that the missions become increasingly difficult each go-around.

You can access A New Source of Employment by going to your mailbox at a post office or in your camp lockbox. Additional solo missions will be announced later.

Bonuses

To celebrate the launch of the solo missions, players can get special rewards for completing them this week only. Complete any of the three missions and you'll receive 5,000 Club XP, RDO $100, and a treasure map. There are also payouts for each individual mission:

  • A One Horse Deal -- 30% off an Arabian horse and two special horse revivers
  • Rich Pickings -- three lost jewelry and three family heirloom collectibles
  • Outrider -- 20 small game arrows and 100 express revolver cartridges

These new solo missions come to Red Dead Online not long after Rockstar Games added the ability to perform the Cayo Perico Heist in GTA Online in single-player. A lot of people played GTA Online's Cayo Perico Heist as a single-player mission, and management at Take-Two said this speaks to Rockstar's ongoing commitment to single-player experiences.

Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said Rockstar's ability to have success in both single-player and multiplayer within its games demonstrates that the developer doesn't have to choose--it can have both. GTA Online and Red Dead Online set new player records in 2020, while the base games themselves also continues to reach new sales milestones. This is all despite no single-player expansion ever releasing for Grand Theft Auto V or Red Dead Redemption II.

In other news, the standalone version of Red Dead Online recently jumped back up $20 following a multi-month discount that brought it down to $5.

A ONE HORSE DEAL

The Braithwaites are negotiating a deal to buy a prized, untamed white Arabian racehorse from Emerald Ranch. Your task will be to intercept the deal, tame the unpredictable beast, an deliver the steed to your contact. This is a highly valued horse, so expect guards to give pursuit.

RICH PICKINGS

Rumor has it that the mayor of Saint Denis is busy lining his pockets with seized jewels smuggled into the States. The Mayor keeps his stash in his tightly guarded manor--break in, snatch the gems, and get back out alive.

OUTRIDER

A wagon is making its way out of Brittlebrush Trawl, requiring a skilled individual to provide backup against attackers and roadblocks en route. Whether you escort on horseback or ride shotgun is up to you, but if the driver dies it's on you to get the wagon to its destination by any means necessary--and don’t ask too many questions about the cargo.
