Razer unveils Windows 8 gaming tablet
Gaming peripheral company Razer reveals Project Fiona concept tablet at CES in Las Vegas; the Windows 8 device is slated for a sub-$1,000 price tag and planned for release by the end of 2012.
Razer, a company best known for its gaming peripherals, has unveiled that it is working on a new Windows 8 gaming tablet that would allow users to play fully fledged PC titles.
As reported by CNET, Razer unveiled the concept for the Project Fiona tablet at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas today, detailing plans to release the product before the end of the year for a sub-$1,000 price tag.
According to CNET's report, the tablet will run in Windows 8 and will use an Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor and a solid-state drive (SSD).
It will also sport a 10.1-inch touch screen, 1024x768-pixel resolution, two analog joysticks attached to its sides, a battery life akin to that of a laptop, and an accelerometer. Razer showed off the device at CES, allowing attendees to try out PC titles on the tablet, such as Tom Clancy's HAWX 2 and Company of Heroes.
CNET reports that Razer's goal with Project Fiona is to "offer sufficient horsepower for true PC gaming, as well as tablet-like portability and ease of use."
In November last year, Amazon launched the US$200 Kindle Fire, an Android-powered tablet that runs music, movies, TV shows and also allows users to play games, including Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies.
