Insomniac's diminutive robot Clank may be made of steel, but today he and his partner Ratchet are officially golden. In a post on the PlayStation blog, the developer announced that work on Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time for the PlayStation 3 had been completed, and the title has entered manufacturing in anticipation of its October 27 release.

Take that, time!
Take that, time!

A Crack in Time will conclude a trilogy of sorts begun in 2007's Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and continued last year in the pair's downloadable debut, Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty. The game will follow the lombax Ratchet as he attempts to save his robotic sidekick, and Sony promises to reveal both their origins and ultimate destinies during the course of the game, teasing a breakup along the way.

To promote the launch, Insomniac is offering incentives to those who preorder the game at select retailers. For instance, customers who put their money down early at GameStop will receive access to an Insomniac Moon level based on the developer's actual studio, while Amazon customers will receive 5,000 free bolts (the game's form of currency) and two power-ups that make it easier to acquire more throughout the game. Game Crazy is also offering 5,000 bolts to preorders, but instead of the power-ups, customers will receive a new Hot Rod skin for the titular duo's rocket ship, as well as a special PlayStation Home avatar.
