After a dalliance in the world of downloadable content, Ratchet & Clank are returning to retailers. Sony announced today that Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time will arrive in stores for the PlayStation 3 this fall.

A Crack in Time will conclude the story sparked in 2007's Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and continued last year in the pair's downloadable debut, Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty. The game will follow the lombax Ratchet as he attempts to save his robotic sidekick, and Sony promises to reveal both their origins and ultimate destinies during the course of the game, teasing the biggest breakup since the Beatles.

A Crack in Time will include the series' signature focus on creative weaponry, with developer Insomniac Games currently running a contest to design a part of the game's new arsenal. In addition to having his or her weapon included in the game, the contest winner will get a life-size replica and a trip to meet the development team and unveil the weapon at the San Diego Comic-Con.
