Rainbow Six Siege Won't Get New Game Modes

Rain on my parade.

Rainbow Six Siege will not get any new game modes, developer Ubisoft Montreal has confirmed.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Siege's creative director Xavier Marquis said introducing new game modes is "something that we do not want to do."

Brand director Alexandre Remy continued: "We concluded that there are some foundations to Siege that we want to keep: attack versus defense, destruction, operators, and [only having] one life. That is the DNA of the game, so when you look at what game modes would sufficiently refresh the experience but remain faithful to those rules, there's not that many. Siege is its own game mode.

Remy explains that instead of adding new modes, the team is looking to expand the game by adding to its 17 maps and 30 Operators (when its next expansion, Velvet Shell, launches on February 7).

"When we launched the game a year ago, we were like, 'Yeah, we're going to make new content including game modes because it's a formula that makes sense,'" he recalls. "But as we moved forward we realized there's so much depth with operators and destruction. That has a lot to offer, so the focus is always going to be on refreshing the meta with operators and new maps.

"The moment that we hit 50 operators, that's the minimum that we actually want," he declares. "The idea is that you actually want enough operators so that [for] each pick you have a choice. Thermite for a long time was not a choice, everyone had to pick him in a team because he was the only one who could breach into a reinforced wall. Introducing Hibana, all of a sudden the player could perform that task with a choice. At that moment every choice is tough choice for the player and not an obvious one. To come to that moment, you need a minimum of 50. When we have 50, that'll be when the game is at its peak in terms of strategy."

Rainbow Six Siege's second year of DLC kicks off on February 7 with two new Operators--Mira and Jackal--and one new map. Check out our video preview above.

Team Deathmatch would ruin this game. Glad they're not adding it and I hope they never do.

@dattwood: How so? I would think that it's as simple as "Don't like it? Don't play it". More game modes in a MP shooter is never a bad thing.

I passed on this game, I prefer what they were doing in the Vegas games....had a SP/coop story, MP and terrorist hunt that got to be really popular and the character editor wasn't too shabby for what the game was, it was a well rounded game....

this is pure MP and the characters are lame....the whole thing is play our way not the way you'd want to so I passed on it......

as for new game modes there's a ton of other games with TDM so who gives a F?? they shouldn't try to get people like me, do what they can to keep the players they have....that's what they should do.....

I hate to sound like an ass but this is how I feel.....I loved Vegas & Vegas 2 and patriots looked cool, with Siege I just don't like competitive games that much anymore, shoot me.....

@legendaryh1tman: i'd rather play Mass Effect Andromeda MP when that comes out.....if it's anything like ME3's it'll be pretty fun....

GR is another game that lost it's identity....IDK, I'll give Wildlands a shot at some point but when I can get it used for around $20.....I think I can still kinda enjoy the open world aspect if it's done well or decently.....less tower and assault bases crap and more actual missions.....

also i'd add all the original R6 games had coop as well.....Wildlands isn't special or new......R6 also always had a strong MP side too but I was never that good......i'd always be the weak link on the team [in the older games, i could hold my own in Vegas in Coop]

@darthrevenx: vegas was fun but it also wasn't the same as older series of r6 which some prefer more then vegas. This game definitely shouldn't be compared to vegas and in my opinion should be compared to counter strike. I assume you don't like cs. I've played a lot of cs and loved it but it's a bit old. This feels like a new cs.

who cares. I'm still pissed they released a tactical shooter with characters having ''perks''. That's not mentioning the many bugs and exploits, which they were not able to resolve in a timely manner.

@xolivierx: and here I am, still hoping for a quality SOCCOM game or a real tactical Rainbow Six.

I still think an offline terror hunt mode would be the bees knees, make it happen already damnit, it's such a small gesture do it,

You can make other modes but TEAM DEATHMATCH is not one of them. That would be stupid and it doesn't work for this type of game. This game is objective based

Weak excuse by developers. There are ways to add new modes while keeping the core experience the same. Change the objectives and rules a bit and that's it. For example, make one player on each team the leader. He is super strong due additional health, but if he dies first then the team loses. I am sure that there are many variations that could be played.

@dinb: You're preaching to the choir. You should be on the Ubisoft feedback thread at the R6 forum or subreddit.

@mi_hung_lo: was this on consoles? I hated the game when I first bought it so I traded it in. I ended up liking it again during the first play for free weekend so I bought it again.

@indigoj: They'll never be another Vegas considering teh story has moved away from that city. At one point they were making sequels based on major cities. Patriots was supposed to take place in Washington DC

@mi_hung_lo: honestly that's a series I do see Ubisoft going back to just due to its popularity. A story is not going to stop them if they feel they can make enough money , which in the case of vegas i do see it. They might move it to another scenery though like to Macau but I do see them going back to the style third person and more focus on Terrorist hunt.
