Rainbow Six: Patriots moves to next-gen

Ubisoft confirms long-in-development action game now slated for release on next-generation consoles.

Rainbow Six: Patriots has been shifted to next-generation consoles after being originally announced in 2011 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Ubisoft marketing executive Tony Key revealed the news to IGN, saying, "Rainbow 6 got caught in the transition of going to next-gen and essentially we're figuring out 'well, are we making the right game for the right hardware systems?'"

Rainbow Six: Patriots was previously targeted to launch in 2013, though a new release window was not provided. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launch later this year.

Earlier this week, Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat explained the game's E3 absence, telling media that the title "has a place in the studio," but would not say more.

Ubisoft cut top staff at Ubisoft Montreal in March 2012, and months later Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said there was a "good chance" the game had been shifted to next-gen.

Most recently, the title was pulled from the GameStop database.

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal with assistance from Ubisoft Toronto and Red Storm, Rainbow 6: Patriots will follow the counterterrorism Team Rainbow squad as it tries to put down a group of American insurgents known as the True Patriots. As players look to suppress the True Patriots' budding revolution, they will be faced with "tough ethical decisions," according to Ubisoft.

Yes it has to have the same sandbox-zone feel as previous Rainbows. I loved being able to take down a building anyway I wanted. Larger fireteams would be great too!

While I really liked Paul Haslinger's Vegas soundtracks, I really hope they bring back the more patriotic sounding music from Rainbow Six 3 and the original.

Something I also wish they bring back for the future of Rainbow Six games is the feeling that everyone is united in a way, 'cause when I played the original for some time, you have all these different characters from different nationalities, and that was cool to me, while in Vegas, while I still liked it, it felt more like it was solely American than anything else.

I have always been a fan of the Rainbow series, but to be honest I want to see a throw back to the classic games.

I want to plan my mission from the start, select best teammates for each situation, and used what ever intel that is available to plan on what weapons to take, and what route to go.

@Pete5506 Yeah, same here. Vegas games were nice no doubts. But nothing to do with the original Rainbow Six basis. Guess Ubisoft made that choice as the Tactical FPS genre is not very popular. SWAT series is great too.

Rainbow Six Raven Shield is the best game in the world and better than Vegas 1 and 2. BUT im waiting for Patriots alot so cant wait to hear more about this game.

Been waiting for this game FOREVER!! Easily the best Tom Clancy games were the Rainbox sixes. Hell yeah the multiplayer was also the best. Close quarter combat not the bullshit respawn anywhere and get killed right away like the crappy CODs.

I'm not feeling Patriots at all. After reading the GI article on it it feels like you're being made to play as the bad guy; the government stooge sent to kill the people trying to change the world for the better.

@Uesugi-dono I agree, the propaganda in this game is staggering. It's like Mr. Janet Napolitano and rest of the bunch referring to patriots as terrorists, when it is they who are taking away liberties. On Principle I will be avoiding this game. Now Battlefiled 4 salivating over that one, that multiplayer demo was insane!

That's a smart move on there part,I mean let the next COD and Battlefield would have taken all the hype this year and Rainbow Six: Patriots would have been overshadow so with a few more years COD and Battlefield will be forgotten and the new Rainbow Six will have a strong sales.
