Rage 2: Last Chance To Snag Its Pre-Order Bonuses

Time's running out to pre-order Rage 2 for extra perks.

We're finally one day away from the release of Rage 2, which launches May 14 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Co-developed by Id Software and Avalanche Studios and published by Bethesda, Rage 2 is an open-world shooter set in a Mad Max-like post-apocalyptic world.

Rage 2 is the sequel to Rage, which released nearly eight years ago. Never played the first game? Here's what you need to know: A comet has smashed into Earth, decimating the landscape and killing off 80% of the population. For the few who are left, anarchy reigns, bullets fly, and explosions are as common as a cold. The game also features a healthy dose of vehicular combat, which comes as no surprise, seeing as Avalanche Studios' last game was Just Cause 4. There's even a gyrocopter for anyone who wants to take to the air.

Over the past couple of weeks, Bethesda has been drumming up hype for the game with couple of unique giveaways. The first was a custom Rage 2 Dreamcast (really a disguised PC) that came equipped to play the game. The second giveaway, which you can still enter through Sunday, is for a humorous set of Rage 2 Xbox One controllers that reference Walmart Canada's leak of the game in 2018.

Rage 2 is also adding an extra layer of interactivity with a few special Twitch extensions that let viewers revive you if you die out in the wasteland and pull viewer names as opponents in in-game races. Plus, viewers who participate will also get drops in their own games, like weapon skins.

[Update]: Our Rage 2 review is finally out, so be sure to check that out before deciding whether to pick up the game. Critic Michael Higham scored the game 6/10 for a main mission that felt short, underwhelming characters, and meaningless side quests, but did praise the game's "clever, destructive abilities," fun combat, and skill tree upgrades.

If you've decided you're all-in on Rage 2, you're probably wondering what kind of extra freebies you can get for ordering your copy before Tuesday. We have all the info you need below.

Rage 2 pre-order bonuses

No Caption Provided

You'll get a handful of freebies for pre-ordering Rage 2.

  • Exclusive mission "Cult of the Death God"
  • Settler's Pistol
  • Nicolas Raine Armor
  • Mutant Monster Truck Skin

It sounds like you'll have to complete the pre-order exclusive mission to get the gear. According to GameStop's description, the Cult of the Death God mission is "a wild ride that sends [the protagonist] Walker after a cult of crazed mutants who have taken to worshipping the image of Nicholas Raine--the hero of the original Rage Survive the sewers and fight through hordes of mutants--including the massive and monstrous Abadon Warlock--to receive Raine's legendary armor along with the fan-favorite Settler Pistol and the new Mutant Monster Truck."

Some retailers are also offering exclusive bonuses:

  • Amazon: Exclusive Rage 2 controller skin included in box when you pre-order standard or Deluxe edition; Prime members get $10 reward credit with any edition pre-order
  • GameStop: Exclusive Rage 2 wingstick included in box

Pre-order Rage 2 standard edition

As usual, the standard edition comes with the base game and any pre-order bonuses. We recommend grabbing the game from Walmart, as it's currently $10 cheaper there than anywhere else.

Game looks awesome. I loved the first one. I'm glad id had their hands on it too otherwise it would have been another open world with tons of cut n paste side activities. Yeah mad Max and just cause are fun but avalanche definitely does the cut n paste filler, not as much as say ubisoft but they do it too. You can tell Id was heavily involved by how fast and fun the gameplay looks and the world looks interesting too, not just copies of the same areas all over the map. The graphics look beautiful, obviously running on id tech 6 which was the doom engine. I love id's style, old school fast paced fighting and I really miss it in a world of generic shooters like far cry. I almost wish for more linear shooters again like Wolfenstein. Everything doesn't need to be forced open world

I remember playing the first Rage and thinking it was kinda 'meh.' I was a little more than surprised to see the ad campaign as large as it is.

"We do know it's coming to PS4, PC, and Xbox One sometime in 2019. It's being co-developed by Id Software and Avalanche Studios, and published by Bethesda"

Wait a min this game comes out in 2019 damn the trailer made it look like it was damn near finished. I thought the release date on this would be fall 2018. I also would like to point out that Avalanche studios last game was not Mad Max it was actually Just Cause 3. They both launched in the same year but JC3 launched after Mad Max. Also I find it hilarious that you can't pre-order the game at Wal-Mart I mean I thought the whole point of that leaked list of games is so they could get in early on the whole pre-order game for these games and beat other retailers to the punch. What was the point of leaking that list of games if not to get a jump on pre-orders lol?

@lithus: agreed, it's getting old. To be honest I'm pretty pissed gears 5 is going to be about kait... .again. Gears 4 was already about her and she's the most boring character in gears. Now I have to play with her if I play the campaign. Why not an option to play with Marcus or jd unless they won't be in the game much which I'm assuming is the case. Do we really need 2 games about kait who was never in the franchise until 4. I'm sure there are female players but I'd bet they make up less than a quarter of the gamer base and that's being extremely generous

I absolutely intend to buy this, but I'll wait until post-release. Let's let them get a couple patches under the hood first.

Not great, but it is a "bonus". I do it for the 20% off at Amazon. Happening regardless.

Hope they give a better idea about the game soon. But just about anything is better than paying $60 for rehashed WiiU and 3DS games on my Switch.

This honestly should have been announced for the Switch as well I feel like if it can handle Doom it should be able to handle this as well.

Honestly, I’m getting sick of seeing women in games now. WE get it! You girls want to feel represented and in power and companies want to make money feeding you that BS

@lithus:

LOL What difference does it make? I honestly don't see why ppl get so upset over such trivial shit like I never cared once about the gender(or the sexuality for that matter) of the character I am playing as in a video game. There's never been a moment where I am playing a game and think to myself "Man I wish this female character I am playing as was a dude" Or "Man I wish my character was gay instead of a heterosexual" I just can't see why in the hell I'd give a damn about that shit I mean why does it matter?

@lithus: You're absolutely right. Most of the women would die during the apocalypse and the ones that would survive wouldn't be warriors and fighters. The only reason I don't mind it here is because the punk girl turns me on (I'm probably weird)

Pretty lousy bonuses.

I'm getting a bit spoiled but ever since devs started including other games in their pre-order that seems like the absolute best way to sell copies.

Examples like getting Far Cry 3 when you get the Far Cry 5 season pass, or Bethesdas own IP Dishonored where preordering Dishonored 2 got you Dishonored 1 for free and remastered.

I never played Rage 1 and I'm sure tons of others are excited about this game but didn't play the first either. Including the first game remastered as a preorder is definitely work, but it would absolutely make Rage 2 sell infinitely better, especially considering Rage 1 isn't available as a digital download inexplicably and must be bought off eBay.

@nikolistary:

I'm surprised they didn't partner with Microsoft to make the 1st game backwards compatible on the Xbox One and include it as a free pre-order bonus for this game. Seems like that would have made the most sense as there would have been no work on Bethesda's part as Microsoft's back compat team do all the work getting the backwards compatible games up and running all the Bethesda has to do is give permission to re-release the game on the Xbox One store.

@snugglebear: Guns, explosions and lots of killing. It seems pretty obvious. Have you never played a shooter before?
