Now Playing: We've Done A Complete 180 On Rage 2

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

Bethesda's next big game, Rage 2, is almost here. The game releases on May 14, and ahead of that, Bethesda has announced that the PS4, Xbox One, and PC game has "gone gold," while the publisher also confirmed the game's minimum and recommended settings for PC.

"Going gold" means development on the base game is finished. Rage 2 was developed by id Software (maker of the first Rage) and Just Cause studio Avalanche Studios.

As for the PC requirements, the minimum specs show that you need a 64-bit OS running Windows 7, 8.1, or 10. You'll need an Intel Core i5-3570 or AMD Ryzen 3 1330X or better processor, along with 8 GB of RAM. The minimum specs also mention you'll need a Nvidia GTX 780 3G or AMD R9 280 3GB or better for a graphics card. 50 GB of hard drive space is needed. You can see the full minimum and recommended specs below, along with a list of some of the other supported settings like ultra-wide monitors and field-of-view (FOV) options.

Bethesda also clarified more details on Rage 2's resolution and FPS across all version. The PS4 edition runs at 1080p/30FPS, while the Xbox One edition is 900p/30FPS. If you have a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, you can expect 1080p/60FPS on either system. On PC, you can play Rage 2 at any resolution your setup allows for, and there are no frame rate caps.

Speaking with GameSpot recently, Tim Willits talked about what the studios set out to do with Rage 2 and assured fans they don't have to play the first game. "Firstly, I like to say that Rage 2 delivers on all that Rage 1 promised," he said. "I've joked that the biggest lesson I've learned from Rage is don't make an open world game without an open world technology, which is what we did with our id Tech 5 engine for the original. But you're right, it's kinda like we're launching a new franchise. It's very exciting. We often get people asking, 'Well, do I need to have played the first one?' And I'm like, 'No. Don't worry about it. We got you covered.' You can just jump in and play. Don't be nervous by the 2."

Are you looking forward to Rage 2? Let us know in the comments below!

@ukgamer51: It's about getting clicks. It isn't even that crafty, but it works. I would like to think articles would tend to have better content and integrity. We take what we can get I guess.

Shit my laptop falls just out of range of the recommended specs with a Core I7 4750 paired with a GTX 960M and 16GBs of Gddr 4 ram. The graphics card is the real problem too bad it ain't upgradable lol. Well if I really want to check this out I can choose between the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X wonder which version would be better to get tho?

It's kinda sad when a developer feels the need to announce that their PC game will include the ability to fine tune visual settings. I mean, this stuff is standard, isn't it?

yeah its pretty dumb but a lot of games still fail to offer the most basic options in their games to modify. Even having to mention it supports 21:9 is funny, that should be a given in 2019.

Even games from the early 1990s work with 21:9 like Civilization and Simcity 2000, when I see an idiot developer that can't even implement ultrawide in their game in 2019 I just shake my head. Mind you some of those early 1990s windows games had just blind luck that they work in 21:9 because they had window scaling that made that possible to support pretty much any widescreen resolution.... but every common widescreen should be supported in 2019 and we are still having to hex edit exe files ourselves to make them work. Its a complete joke.

@davillain-:

Yea you're probably right this game seems like a good $29.99 game but not necessarily a full $59.99. Even better if it comes to Game Pass with in 3 months.

Got mine pre-ordered on Steam for PC, really looking forward to next Tuesday. Glad they made it so there is no frame-rate cap, but that's what I call standard needs these days though. Looks like a fun game :)

Eddie's articles are always so messed up or weird.

Why did you write out the entire min specs in paragraph form, then paste the exact same information as it would have been listed again?

Will you write literally anything just to inflate the word count?

@Xylymphydyte: Well, GameSpot doesn't have any sort of standards anymore. Look at their reviews and gameplay videos. Listen to their podcasts. All of it is cringeworthy. Couple that with clickbait articles and you have one crappy gaming website.

@Litchie: Totally. I only ever end up here because I frequently hit Gamefaqs (which has also become a cesspit over time) to look up stuff and they've put a Gamespot tumor on the side of the site.

Then my main objective here is usually looking at what nonsense is in the comment section if the cowards even leave comments open.

If the pro can handle 1080p 60 then the one X should do 1440p 60 no problem.

Yea but they aren't gonna do the extra work to bump the One X's res over the Pro. Me personally I'd rather see a 4K/30FPS mode myself.

@Marky360: You know they may have developed the game to the metal for ps4 architecture and then ported it over to the xbox one. I would prefer a much higher res, higher assets, developed for PC and then ported to ps4 pro, and xbox one x - Your right in that would have been very expensive but with the ps4 at somewhere around 100mill and xbox prob around 40 mill - then it would be much more cost effective to design any game to the highest install base. Still it would be nice to have a game designed from the ground up for each system.

I would be happy with a 2k/60fps instead of 1080p/60 fps. I was blown away going from 1080p to 1440p but less so going from 2k to 4k. I would really love to try a OLED monitor with 144+ mhz, but then again my gold plated toilet bowl would have to come first.

@krazeekhujo05: Not a fanboy for either console, but that is not how it works on consoles. Your'll have to check to see what resolution is supported by the developer. Even if the xbox oneX could do crazy high 4k/144mhz, it would need to be enabled and of course have the assets.

@sweet_jcs: True, true but with tv/monitors that are 65" that do 4k/144mhz/hdr - the differences are starting to blur. HP's new 65-inch BGFD: overclocked 4K 144Hz HDR TV for $5000 Read more: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/64359/hps-new-65-inch-bgfd-overclocked-4k-144hz-hdr-tv-5000/index.html

But I was not referring to any set output device above since the xbox can be output to monitors via hdmi2> or DP 1.2> but merely a high reference in explanation that consoles games can only have resolutions set by developers, not by wishful consumer choice.

@jenovaschilld: What are you talking about console games come in all sorts of different resolutions like 1572p, 864p, Ninja Gaiden 2 on the one X runs at 1752p at 60fps, so try again mon ami.

@krazeekhujo05: Your right they do indeed, and I never said they didn't, but that is only if the developer codes in the options to allow that. It is not like you can take any game made and choose your own graphic settings 'you' want. Even PCs have to have some registry built in by the developer so the api's know what to do with them. And consoles- being an 'enclosed- platform' only have the resolutions set by the developer, so you don't even get limited forcing.

When Rage 2 comes out and the developer keeps the set xbox one resolution at 1080p - whether you play it on the xbox one X, regular ... it is still stuck at 1080p until a patch or update - if there even is one- will allow it. And even then you may need a hi- res assets download that is needed or else those 1080p are gonna look really stretched and thin at 2k or 4k. Like it says above in article ps4pro and xbox x, at launch is only going to be 1080p at 60fps, which is determined by the developers as i stated in above post. So look upon that shooting star and wish wish all your might, and maybe some day Bethesda just might..... much like you loosing your virginity one day.
