Square Enix fans waiting desperately for new role-playing games from the publisher received good news today, as a final release date of September 6 was nailed down for Radiata Stories. The latest RPG from Tri-Ace, the developer of Valkyrie Profile and the Star Ocean series, will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 2.

Players will take control of Jack, a would-be knight in the Kingdom of Radiata, where his father gained fame and renown as a dragon slayer. Jack enters the kingdom's military with high hopes, only to find himself upstaged by Ridley, the daughter of a nobleman. Before long, both characters find themselves at the heart of a conflict between men and fairylike creatures that threatens to destroy the world.

Radiata Stories also touts a number of wrinkles to the standard role-playing game formula. Interactive environments let gamers kick furniture and other objects around the room instead of merely checking them. Additionally, time-sensitive gameplay creates a world where non-player characters sleep, work, and play. Finally, a whopping 175 different potential party members are available to recruit throughout the gameworld.

Radiata Stories is rated T for Teen and will retail for $49.99. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's hands-on impressions of the Japanese version.
