Quentin Tarantino Won't Make A Marvel Or DC Movie -- "I'm Not Looking For A Job"

Quentin Tarantino, the Oscar-winning director behind movies like Pulp Fiction and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, has said he has no interest in directing a Marvel or DC film. Speaking to The Los Angeles Times, Tarantino said directors chosen for those types of projects are akin to a "hired hand," and he wants no part of that at this stage of his career.

"You have to be a hired hand to do those things," Tarantino said. "I'm not a hired hand. I'm not looking for a job."

Marvel and DC movies have attracted big-name directors before. Kenneth Branagh directed the original Thor, Sam Raimi made Spider-Man films, and Scott Derrickson made the original Doctor Strange. Edgar Wright was lined up to make Ant-Man, too, but that project fell apart. The point could be made, however, that not all of these directors were at their peak of popularity at the time they made their comic book films.

Tarantino himself has brushed up with a comic book film before as well, as he was involved in a Sgt. Rock film years ago that never came to be. More recently, Tarantino was in the mix for a Star Trek film with a 1930s gangster vibe, but it also fell apart. Tarantino also wanted to direct a James Bond Casino Royale movie, but it never came to pass.

Tarantino's latest film was 2019's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which won two Oscars. The director says he'll make one more film before retiring, and that movie could be Kill Bill Vol. 3.

As for Marvel and DC films, there are loads more coming up. The next big MCU film is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11), while the next major DC film is Shazam: Fury of the Gods (March 2023).
