Quantum Break "Sold Really Well," Beat Microsoft's Expectations
"Quantum Break sold really well; it exceeded what we expected it to do."
Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment's time-bending action game Quantum Break "sold really well," according to Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg. In fact, sales were so good that they exceeded Microsoft's own expectations for the Xbox One and PC game, Greenberg said in a new interview.
"Quantum Break sold really well; it exceeded what we expected it to do," he said when discussing what Remedy might make next with Windows Central. "We were really pleased with how Quantum Break did. But just like every movie, not every game needs a sequel, sometimes it's okay."
Greenberg doesn't ever quantify Quantum Break's success with a specific figure, either for sales or Microsoft's expectations.
As the interviewer pointed out, Quantum Break's ending leaves open the possibility for a sequel. Whether or not Remedy makes this game remains to be seen.
Just recently, Remedy's Thomas Puha revealed that the independent Finnish studio was working on a mysterious, secretive project; he wouldn't say if it was a brand-new thing or an extension of one of Remedy's existing franchises, like Alan Wake or Quantum Break. Whatever the case, it's very early days for this game, though Remedy is already shopping it to publishers.
Speaking generally about Remedy's future, Greenberg said, "They're very creative storytellers who build very rich, great games." Remedy was a "great partner" for Microsoft on Alan Wake and Quantum Break he said, so naturally, "We're excited to see what they do next."
In other news about Quantum Break, Microsoft recently announced that the game is coming to Steam and to physical retailers for PC. As for Remedy, in addition to the mysterious game, it's working on the campaign for Korean developer Smilegate's CrossFire 2.
