Quantum Break, Alan Wake Dev Working on New Game - Report

What would you like to see Remedy make next?

It looks like Quantum Break and Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment is deep into development on an unannounced new game. Online resumes for two Remedy developers claim work has been underway on the project since August 2015, suggesting the title has been in the works for almost nine months.

No Caption Provided

Gamer Center Online and VideoGamer.com spotted the LinkedIn profiles, which are for the game's lead design and executive producer. No further details about the game are mentioned in the profiles.

Remedy, which is based in Helsinki, Finland, has stated time and again that it is open to the idea of returning to the Alan Wake franchise. Additionally, creative director Sam Lake recently teased that a future Remedy title might include multiplayer; the studio's games have historically been single-player only.

Earlier this month, Lake said Remedy has "all kinds of ideas floating around" for future games, some of which involve multiplayer functionality.

"Certainly there are discussions about multiplayer," he said at the time. "There are discussions about all kinds of ideas. We want to evolve with the times as well; try out new things that push ourselves, and always come back and question, 'What is a Remedy game and how can we evolve it into something even cooler?'"

Quantum Break, Remedy's latest game, was released on April 5 for Xbox One and PC.

What would you like to see Remedy work on next? Let us know in the comments below!

I will not be buying it. I was excited for QB, and severly let down. I never cared for the AW games at all.

I'm on act 5 of Quantum Break. Hopefully they make a sequel by fall 2018.

9 months to develop a way to screw with PC gamers isn't technically a new game.

I don't care about multiplayer a bit, but an Alan Wake sequel or something new but similar will be awesome!

Alan Wake with multiplayer? The idea reminds me of ObsCure.

Like most people here, I really want it to be Alan Wake 2. But what I consider to be far more likely is Alan Wake HD. Microsoft invested heavily in Remedy to bring Quantum Break to the Xbox, and that game has proven to be the #1 seller on that console. Thus it would make sense for Microsoft to enter a longer term relationship with Remedy to bring in more Xbox/PC exclusives.

Alan Wake HD would be the most logical choice for the next project because
1) It is something that could be churned out faster than an entirely new game,
2) It would expand the fanbase for the IP, and
3) Ideally pave the way for Alan Wake 2 eventually.

Microsoft could sit back, watch how Alan Wake HD sells compared to Quantum Break, and then take their pick of greenlighting either Quantum Break 2 or Alan Wake 2 as the next project. Personally, I would be happy with whichever way things went (Remedy still has never disappointed me), but I would certainly be happiest if Alan Wake 2 got greenlit sooner rather than later.

@LonelyStep: I find this unlikely as they already put Alan Wake out on backwards compatibility and gave it out free with Quantum Break. They would never have done all that if they were planning to remaster it.

I just hope it's not Quantum Break 2, the first game doesn't really do anything for me. Another Alan Wake game would be welcome though, or just something else entirely new.

Oh my god.

**** Multiplayer. I'm so sick and tired of Deathmatch.

A real start to finish experience is what real games are all about. Quit screwing around and put Alan Wake 2 out already. If you wanna tack on some MP when you're done, cool, but MP as a focus is just horrible.

@skyhighgam3r: Jeeze, relax, they said it "might" have MP... nothing about it being MP focused, or even having deathmatch, there are ways to do a MP component other than competitive deathmatches. I'd swear there hasn't been a SP game in years with your kind of reaction... but that's all I've been playing so I donno why you're so touchy about MP being a possibility.

I'd love to see an Alan Wake 2 though, I still really like that game, and it's one of the few horror games I've really enjoyed (Eternal Darkness being another).

@Jinzo_111887: Nope, just looked up some footage of it though, looks a lot like a Resident Evil game. Since you mentioned the MP above I assume those AI companions can be controlled by a player...? I definitely like the idea of Alan Wake with some kind of co-op, as long as it still stands strong as a SP-only title too, since you can't always get a buddy to play.

@nl_skipper: The first one has a varient of the flashlight and gun mechanic of Alan Wake. Both installments have a drop in drop out multi-player mechanic with a character switch like various Lego games. If you don't have a partner, the other player will be controlled by AI. If you do have another player, the switch button selects who the game's camera is focused on. If you're curious, both Obscure and Obscure 2/Obscure the Aftermath are available on Steam. They don't have an official online mode, though.

@putaspongeon: It was small, but I don't know if I'd go so far as to say it wasn't an 'actual game' though lol. The short single player bit we got felt like a good extension of the story. Had all the same game mechanics too.

Plus that arcade mode is really cool.

@putaspongeon: No, standalone DLC is still part of the original game. That's why it's called DLC at all. For instance in the 2 inFamous Stand-alones, you are still in the same game-world as their respective main titles, they even run on the exact same engine.

Whereas American Nightmare is a sequel, it uses a modified engine, and new game world.

In fact American Nightmare actually happened because they decided to cancel the work they started on Alan Wake 2 (there's footage online of what they had started), so they compacted that work into this small title.

@skyhighgam3r: Nope, standalone dlc is dlc you can buy without buying the base games.

Yes, they took what was planned for 2 and made a standalone dlc.

Dlc can continue the story, and it usually does. For example look at DmC, one dlc you play as vergil after the end of the game.

Dlc doesn't have to take place during.

@putaspongeon: So what is it in your perspective that disqualifies this from being a separate game and relegates it to the status of DLC?

@skyhighgam3r: The fact that it's only 3 and a half hours long and isn't sold as a sequel.

How about some decent Quantum Break DLC

It's a game that I want more of, and knowing Remedy, if it gets a full sequel it'll take them at least another 5 years

After those amazing easter eggs at start of QB, it better frigging be Alan Wake 2.

Edit: I'd also accept if they made a deal with Rockstar to develop a new Max Payne

@immortality20: I donno, I loved R*'s Max Payne 3 so much, not to take anything away from MP1 and 2 but I'd really rather it stay in the hands of R* now. MP3 is probably my favorite 3rd person shooter game of all time, there's just so much done right with the action/shooting, all the tech that Take-Two has at their disposal is just so right for that game.

@nl_skipper: I'm there with you. Max Payne 3 is hands-down my favorite Third-Person shooter of all time. It's just so damn good, and in an era where a TPS is as rare as a unicorn, that makes it stand out even more.

I'd be OK with Remedy working with R*, mostly because I think it would help bring back some of the crime noir atmosphere that was completely lacking in Max Payne 3... but at the same time, I would feel like we'd lose the flair that made Max Payne 3 so love-able on it's own.

Either way, I think we can all agree... more Max Payne could only be a good thing lol.

@senorbusyman: Depending on how it is done. Obscure and Obscure 2 both had coop multiplayer with the ability to switch between two characters if you don't have another player. The first one played a lot like Alan Wake, even with the flashlight boost mode and gun. Flashlights could be used with guns, but you had to tape them on to them.

@senorbusyman: Multiplayer games draw in the toxic ADD crowd and Remedy would be spending half it's time fending off trivial b.s. and getting crapped on for not making multiplayer just like Halo or Counter Strike.

@phoenix1289: I loved Quantum Break, the story was really good and well thought out. I don't know if I want to see a sequel though, I felt like they told the entire story and it had a satisfying, if bittersweet, ending. A sequel would be just a cash grab. I would like to see some other new IP from Remedy instead of a Quantum Break sequel. They're excellent at coming up with new games and ideas.

@greaseman1985: In what way did they tell the entire story? There were at least four different big plot points left as a cliffhanger for a sequel.

@Daelusca: It was intended to be odd, it along with a few other hints in the game are pointing at the idea that there is more going on with Hatch than is fully known

As to Jack he didn't lose his powers. He exhibited the exact same symptoms as Paul had throughout most of the game complete with seeing the alternate paths during the final cutscene the same way Paul did during the junctions. It's also implied by Ogawa during one of her comments during the interview.
