QuakeCon 2001 game conference kicks off

Id Software's sixth annual conference is set to begin, along with a $50,000 Quake III Arena tournament.

For the next four days, id Software is holding the sixth annual QuakeCon game convention and tournament. The convention begins today in Mesquite, Texas, and runs through August 12. More than 3,000 game fans from around the world will attend the show, and many will compete in the Quake III Arena tournament, which this year carries a top prize of $50,000.

In addition to the tournament, a number of companies will be at the conference to show off their latest products. These companies include id Software, the host of the show, as well as Apple, Nvidia, Activision, and AMD. GameSpot is attending the show and will be reporting on all the big events and announcements.
