Quake III: Team Arena is the first official expansion pack for id Software's Quake III, and it is the first add-on pack to be internally developed at id since the Master Levels for Doom. In addition to adding several more deathmatch and capture-the-flag maps, Team Arena will include two brand-new modes of play called harvester and obelisk. In Harvester, players compete for artifacts that appear in the center of the arena. To score points, players must bring these artifacts from the center back to the opposing team's base. In Obelisk, teams will storm each other's bases in an attempt to destroy the opposing side's obelisk. When an obelisk is completely depleted of its hit points, that side loses the match. When not under attack, the obelisks slowly recharge their hit points.

Other additions include the return of classic weapons such as the chain gun and nail gun, as well as the addition of new ones such as the proximity grenade launcher. All the teams in Team Arena now have their own custom-designed skin sets and logo-sets, as well as a number of selectable character heads. Also included in the game will be power-ups that affect only one side during the match.

Team Arena requires players to have a retail version of Quake III: Arena installed. It should be out later this year.
