PUBG Has Passed Another Big Milestone On Steam

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds reaches 2 million concurrents.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds continues to grow, toppling milestone after milestone. It's left Dota 2--and everything else on Steam--in the dust in terms of players, and today it became the first game ever to top 2 million concurrent players on the platform.

Steam's stats page highlights both the current number of players online in a game at any time, as well as its daily peak. Since it first surpassed Dota 2 back in August, PUBG has gone on to break the all-time Steam record for concurrent players. 2 million looked likely recently, and now that record now stands at 2,016,498, as of this writing--though you can probably assume that won't last for long. The figure has increased several times just in the course of this story being written. According to SteamDB's unofficial figures, PUBG sales stand at about 15.6 million copies.

Now Playing: GS News Update: PUBG Passes Another Major Milestone On Steam

Despite being an Early Access game, PUBG has enjoyed unprecedented success since its launch earlier this year. A full release is slated for sometime later this year, as is an Xbox One version. We may also see PUBG eventually end up on PS4, although no official announcements have been made on that front as of yet. Microsoft has described the game as a "console launch exclusive," suggesting it could eventually come to other platforms. Perhaps in light of the game's popularity on PC, Microsoft is reportedly working to extend PUBG's Xbox One exclusivity period.

It's an extremely casual (and thus accessible) game for players of all skill levels. The first time I played I made it to the top 10. The second time I played I was insta-killed by a shot in the face in the first house I entered. It's not really a lot of fun imo, but I only have about 2 hours of total play time so maybe it gets better(?).

I'm so BAD at this game! It also gives me a ton of anxiety. It's definitely a game I like to watch rather than playing it myself :P

@sellingthings: i dont think wow ever had 2 million concurrent logins. that would have been 1 in 5 always logged in.

@sellingthings: LoL and WoT should be even above that. Yet regarding shooter games PUBG should have the highest peak ever. And they achieved that through good game design, and not by having preordering kiddies hyped up with oversized advertisement, so they all crash the servers on day1. Just shows how good AAA games really are, when they have their highest player number on first day and its only declining afterwards lol

@sellingthings: True, but it doesn't take the merit away from PUBG.

I'm sure the game is fantastic and fun for people but I personally don't see why everyone loves it so much. The game to me seems like a lot of work and time you have to put in for a small amount of actual fighting and action.

@petek480: Some people get it .. Some Don't .. its not for everybody but I really enjoy it ! Even when I die quite early - although I sit there kicking myself because I didn't check a building before I entered (which you need to do) etc .. the game has you constantly in suspense !

@petek480: the game has you in constant suspense, looking around while you scavenge a house for items or while trying to run to the circle worrying if someone is waiting or someone might be behind you.... give it a try, if you dont want to pay for it try the fortnite version of it.
