PUBG Details Its First Official Tournament With Millions In Prizes

PUBG Global Invitational will host 20 teams from around the world, with $2 million in prizes on the line.

PUBG Corp., the developer of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, has announced it will host the first official global tournament for the battle royale game. It's inviting 20 of the best PUBG teams from around the world to compete in Berlin this July, with considerable prizes on the line.

"The team at PUBG Corp. is working tirelessly to ensure that the PUBG Global International exemplifies the pinnacle of PUBG competition and brings to life all of the excitement, tension, and exhilaration of the highest level of PUBG play, not only to the fans attending the PGI 2018, but also those watching at home," said Chang Han Kim, CEO of PUBG Corp.

PUBG Corp. will pick the 20 qualifying teams at the beginning of July through a set of regional qualifying tournaments in North America, Europe, and Asia. Gameplay at the main tournament will consist of four-player squad battles, with third-person matches taking place July 25-26 and first-person matches taking place July 28-29. A winning team will be crowned for each perspective mode, with a prize pool totalling $2 million USD. Here is the geographic makeup of the teams:

  • North America -- 3 teams
  • Europe -- 3 teams
  • CIS -- 2 teams
  • China -- 2 teams
  • South Korea -- 2 teams
  • Japan -- 2 teams
  • Asia (outside China, South Korea, and Japan) - 3 teams
  • South America/Latin America -- 1 team
  • Middle East/North Africa -- 1 team
  • Oceania - 1 team

In other PUBG news, the game's developers are planning some big balance changes to several of the game's weapons and attachments, while it continues to develop its third map, Codename: Savage, which will have new vehicles, more weapons, and an underground cave system.
