PSP primed for Burnout

Criterion's crash-happy racing franchise will slam onto Sony's portable--eventually.

Gamers already drawing up their wish lists for their PSP collection can now add another title. Today, Criterion Games confirmed to GameSpot that it is developing an installment of their lauded racing game for Sony's portable. "Yes, we are going to do it," said a senior-level Criterion designer who was contacted by GameSpot.

However, Burnout fans dreaming of pocket-size highway carnage will have to be patient. Development of the game is only in the very preliminary stages, as the Surrey, UK-based studio is still finishing up Burnout 3 for the Xbox and PlayStation 2. "Have we completed the design yet? No," said the Criterion designer. No release date for the game has been set, although it's likely that Electronic Arts will be the publisher.

GameSpot will have more details on the PSP Burnout as they become available. For previews and a fiery E3 demonstration of Burnout 3, check out previous coverage.
