The PSOne has individually outsold the PlayStation 2, the Sega Dreamcast, and the Nintendo 64, three weeks running.

Sony continues to remain atop the console sales charts, but surprisingly it's with the newly redesigned PSOne console instead of its next-generation PlayStation 2. With the continued shortage of PS2 units, sales of the PSOne captured 42 percent of all console sales for the week ending November 25. For the week, the Sega Dreamcast finished second with 27 percent, and the Nintendo 64 was a close third with a 26 percent share. In fact, the PSOne has been the top-selling console for three weeks in a row, according to industry analysts at PC Data.

"With the PlayStation 2 in short supply, the PSOne is becoming a lifesaver for toy retailers," said Matt Gravett, game analyst for PC Data. "The Dreamcast has retained its second-place position in the market, but it's experiencing a tough slog competing with Sony's massive PlayStation catalog and continued publisher support."

The Thanksgiving weekend was an especially robust week in sales for the PSOne, as unit sales of the console increased by 58 percent. In that same period, the PlayStation 2 saw a 71 percent decline in sales.
