PS5, Xbox Series X Payment Plans Are Available At GameStop

The company plans to offer multiple payment options for the next-gen consoles this holiday season.

For those of us who are looking to get a PlayStation 5 and an Xbox Series X this holiday season, GameStop is offering the option to pay for both consoles in installments. The new options for payment include a layaway option, third-party installment plans, and a rent-to-own process, according to internal documents obtained by VentureBeat. The expanded payment options were confirmed in GameStop's quarterly earnings report on September 9.

Here's a quick overview of the three main payment options:

Layaway: You'll be able to reserve a console at the store until you pay it off completely, allowing you to contribute smaller payments at a time.

Installment plans: GameStop will offer installment plans with third-party payment services, including Quadpay and Klarna, that allow shoppers to pay off their purchase in four installments over six weeks, with no additional fees.

Rent-to-own: In an internal memo, GameStop said it's working with a "reputable third-party partner" to offer rent-to-own options for many items, allowing customers to take the product home with them with "minimum upfront money" and pay it off within one to 12 months. You'll also retain the option to return the product at any point.

Shoppers can also opt for Microsoft's Xbox All Access plan through GameStop. Available for both the Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox All Access allows you to make payments over a 24-month period, costing $35 per month for the Series X and $25 per month for the Series S. Xbox All Access also includes Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and because of that perk, it's actually cheaper to opt for the All Access plan rather than buy the console and subscription separately, saving you $59 on the Series S and $19 on the Series X. Xbox Series X and Series S preorders go live on September 22, so you'll likely be able to sign up for Xbox All Access then as well.

Unfortunately, no such payment plan has been announced yet for the PlayStation 5; in fact, at this point, all we know about PS5 preorders is that the first round will be available on an invite-only basis exclusively from PlayStation's own store. We don't yet have a price and don't even know when or which third-party retailers will have the PS5 in stock. However, we may learn more on September 16 during a new PlayStation 5 showcase. But in a year where so many people have lost their jobs or had their salaries reduced due to COVID-19, having a wider number of payment options, including Xbox All Access, is certainly a positive thing.

Why exactly are you guys even writing an article about this- the installment plans at gamestop? Trying to get them business? Is this an ad? CUZ IT'S NOT LIKE THERE'S ANY PS5 OR the newest XBOX STOCK AVAILABLE TO BUY ON GAMESTOP'S website!! Its been sold out since they surprised us playstation fans by barely announcing the preorders going on sale 24hours before the retailers put them up to buy. And then the second wave of stock at gamestop went in minutes.

I think most would agree with me on this: of all the companies to be indebted to or be leveraged by, the last company to which you want to owe money is GameStop.

If you need a payment plan for a game console, you can't afford it. Save money, buy product.

I have a payment plan. It's called a budget. If I have the money I buy, if I don't, I won't. Save here and there for the things I want without going into debt or having to do business with Gamestop.

I'm sure some whiner will give me the ol' "well it must be nice, but some of us blah, blah, blah, a bunch of stuff you don't care about Rayzakk you insensitive jerk".

My reply to that is *shrug* I don't really have an answer as I (not necessarily suffer) from apathy.

@Rayzakk: Sometimes its not about having it or not. Some people like payment plans simply to put their mind at ease that if something comes out of no where even if they have the money responsibly to buy it out right. I do it all the time with furniture. Payment plans allow for your funds to stay at a comfortable level while still being able to enjoy life a bit. If you don't have the money to buy it responsibly then yeah there are priorities you need to put in place. But simply saying "well if you have it you don't need plans" is kind of a generalized statement that doesn't work for everyone.

This is a great program given the economic disaster this year has been.

The real questions are

1. Will this be at all GameStop stores?

2. Will you actually be able to get a console given with how low the supply will be at launch.

@dragonsama: If anyone was to do the xbox all access with monthly console payments- they should probably go through the xbox store. While gamestop may offer the exact same through MS, or their very own plans- the xbox all access is actually a decent, $ -per-purchase, plan. Saving you money in the end, while Gamespot would almost have to add some additional charges. IT should be at most stores-brick and mortar and or on their websites.

2. Who knows, hardware will be like it has been these last few gens, with a couple of million in the USA. Enough to fill most demand, but not enough to cover everyone. The big question no one knows is what the demand will be. Pandemic economic distress is a moving target.

Gamestop closing up is bad for gamers as a whole. You may not like what they buy Used games at but their are a great option for people on a budget and I've personally saved thousands of dollars buying used games form them over the years.

Most box stores don't carry that many games (even best buy). Gamespot was the only few with some selection, grant I don't like their open box as new policy. So now we have to buy things online or off the psn/xbox digital store.

I think if they do close they will still bill you (as an online store) so it isn't like free rent peopel think they will get.

Xbox All Access is the best way to go!

Its pretty amazing how little is known about the PS5. It makes you wonder if they are having serious internal debate about the price or are having serious issues with production. Something is off. They are taking way too long to give us news and their next event is still about the PS4.
