Godfall, one of the first games confirmed for the Playstation 5, got a new trailer during the PS5 showcase on Thursday. It showed off fast-paced melee combat and unlockable "godlike armor" in snazzy cinematic style.

Godfall puts players in the shoes of a member of the Knight's Order, who are tasked with preventing a major apocalyptic event. There are five weapon and twelve armor classes, each with unique abilities that let players customize how they play. Godfall is a 'looter-slasher' that has players complete missions in order to get better loot and increase their melee combat capabilities.

Now Playing: Godfall Gameplay Trailer | Sony PS5 Reveal Event

The game has multiple sources of inspiration for its high fantasy setting, including Joe Abercrombie’s The First Law trilogy and Isaac Asimov’s Foundation. Gameplay is inspired by the Monster Hunter franchise's intense boss fights. It features three player, drop-in cooperative play.

The trailer didn't show off much new information outside confirming a Holiday 2020 release window for the game. Godfall, developed by California-based Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox Publishing is headed to PS5 and PC.

Counterplay, whose developers previously worked on Destiny 2 and their own project, Duelyst, first revealed Godfall at The Game Awards in December of last year.
