PS5 Restock Updates: PS5 Sold Out At Dell, Sony Rewards After Restocks This Week

It's finally 2021, but the PS5 isn't any easier to find in stock. Check online inventory and the latest PS5 restock news here.

Over the last week or so, we've seen the PS5 restocked at Best Buy, GameStop, Antonline, and other stores. Each time, the next-gen system has sold out in a matter of minutes, and bots snagging the PS5 for resellers hasn't helped matters. Still, we're continuing to see these somewhat regular restocks, and now that the holiday rush is over, the PS5 stock situation may slowly start to improve. Sony has not revealed its PS5 restock plans for 2021 yet. It's unclear when you'll be able to buy them in-store without a pickup order.

That said, Sony did have the PS5 available to buy yesterday (January 15), though select few could take advantage of the offer. The PS5 restock happened via Sony Rewards, and only members with enough points saved up had a chance at securing the PS5 console bundle, which is now sold out. We've seen bundles go up in some unexpected places, such as Dell, but even those disappear quickly.

We'll be updating this guide as PS5 units go on sale--just be aware that if you want one, you'll have to be quick and potentially open to purchasing a bundle with games and accessories that you may or may not want. If you want to buy a PS5 relatively soon, those are the sort of concessions you need to make. With any luck, you'll find a bundle that contains mostly relevant items. You'll want to get your hands on one to play the best PS5 games coming in 2021.

Where to buy the PS5

The PS5 and PS5 Digital sell for $500 and $400, respectively.
The PS5 and PS5 Digital sell for $500 and $400, respectively.

PS5 availability at PlayStation Direct

PlayStation Direct regularly opens up a queue for shoppers to buy the PS5 (and anything else on the first-party site), but it's often over an hour wait and unclear if the PS5 is even available. Still, it's worth checking PS Direct often, as it's the only store still releasing the PS5 on a somewhat regular basis. However, the queues appear to also be somewhat random.

Note that finding a queue on PS Direct doesn't necessarily mean the PS5 is in stock; it simply indicates high traffic to the store. It never hurts to jump in and wait if you find the queue and you'll be at your computer for a while, but know there's no guarantee it'll be in stock by the time you get through.

PS5 availability at GameStop

We don't know when you'll be able to buy a PS5 from GameStop again. The most recent restock happened in early January, and GameStop had both the PS5 and PS5 Digital edition available in pricey bundles.

PS5 availability at Walmart

We don't know when you'll be able to buy a PS5 from Walmart again. The direct listings for the PS5 and PS5 Digital are now showing error pages, but you can still see the general PS5 hub page at Walmart below.

Walmart last had the PS5, along with other next-gen systems, on its website in late December. For these restocks, it provided more systems every 10 minutes for about half an hour, providing customers with numerous chances to get one. This seemed to make it slightly easier to get one of the systems. However, you will still need to prepare to be there the second a restock happens to have the best chance.

PS5 availability at Best Buy

Best Buy's last PS5 restock was on January 7, and while the online stock is sold out, there may be limited stock available in stores. We suggest checking with your local Best Buy. There's no word on when the next online restock at Best Buy will be.

Best Buy didn't have any stock on store shelves throughout the entire holiday season, but the retailer has stated that consoles will be available in stores in 2021. More systems are coming to Best Buy. When that will actually happen remains to be seen, but the store typically uses a queue system once they come online. This can help to deter bots, but it doesn't guarantee you'll be able to get one.

PS5 availability at Amazon

We don't know when you'll be able to buy a PS5 from Amazon again.

Even Amazon doesn't know when the PS5 will next be in stock, as indicated on the console's product page. In the past, Amazon has occasionally set up new listing pages to make it tougher for bots to track. It has been one of the most inconsistent retailers for the system since it launched. It remains to be seen if that will change in 2021.

PS5 availability at Target

We don't know when you'll be able to buy a PS5 from Target again.

Target has not been restocking much since the PS5 launched, and it's unclear how soon it will begin taking orders again.

Where to buy PS5 accessories

Some PS5 accessories are hard to find in stock, but there are great third-party options.
Some PS5 accessories are hard to find in stock, but there are great third-party options.

The Pulse 3D wireless headset has been the hardest PS5 accessory to find in stock, and it was the first accessory to sell out at major retailers. Restocks have periodically popped up in recent weeks, although it's still not an item that you can reliably purchase at any time. However, there are still a number of great headsets you can buy to go along with your new PS5. Our personal favorite is the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro wireless headset; other great options include the SteelSeries Arctis 1 and the Astro A50. Any of your existing PS4 headsets should work, too.

Other official PS5 accessories, like the media remote and DualSense charging station, are proving popular as well, and remain out of stock with occasional restocks.

Where to buy PS5's biggest games

Quite a few PS5 games are available now, including launch titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon's Souls. Keep in mind that many PS4 games come with free next-gen upgrades have been discounted since launch, making them a better deal than buying the PS5 versions outright.

Id they would start putting them in stores instead of online only it would solve a lot of it.

Absurd it’s still online only.

Wow even sony rewards sold out already? Don't you have to use an ungodly amount of playstation credit card rewards points to get that? As in spending like 10k in credit purchases to accrue that much?

@matr0ska: That’s not that hard to do if you use the card as your main method of purchase.

Just forget this thing even exists for the next 3-6 months. Because that's how long it's going to take before A: the scalpers stop buying every system they can get hold of and B: there's anything actually worth playing on it that can't be played elsewhere.

Every restock will be sold out in under 10 minutes. This is the most in-demand console. It’s going to continue to immediately sell out for at least a few more months. Probably even longer, since people still don’t have anything to do, because of the pandemic.

I’d be much happier if they just physically sold these in the stores, old school. That omits the bots. 1 per customer.

It doesn’t help we’ve had COVID and they stopped selling PS4 and Xbox One early in 2020. I was wise and picked up a Xbox One X refurbished to fill the gap.

If feel like it will be a while before I get lucky and grab a PS5.

Do your research Gamespot. Sony actually has confirmed its has ceased production on all PS4's except for the Slim model and will devote those resources to churn out more PS5's. So give it a couple months.

@INBetweener: That's not what's going on at all. It's not like some factory somewhere pumping out consoles from start to finish. The problem is sourcing parts right now. Particularly the wafers from AMD who gets them from TSMC. They are already at max production, but the demand for 7nm wafers far exceeds their production capacity. Freeing up 28nm PS4 chips does nothing for production because the technology and machines used to print the chips aren't the same.

Due to bans on Huawei in some countries, they cancelled an order of 7nm wafers, so AMD will be getting some of that production capacity for extra PS5 and Xbox chips. Other devices, particularly mobile, will move more towards 5nm more this year and that will free up more 7nm production for AMD as well. Also the yield for these chips aren't as high as they could be, so you get less console chips per wafer due to defects. This should start increasing as time goes by too.

Oh, and do your research ;)

@jsprunk: Wouldn't expect ya to :) That is, unless you're posting comments that begin with telling someone else to do research and then proceed to spew completely incorrect nonsense that you made up in your head.

Things aren't going to get better unless retailers deal with the bots. Especially with restocks being such tiny numbers of units. As someone else in this thread said, we have a serious supply bottleneck that is being totally overcome with the bots. We need higher numbers of distributions to overcome that.

You know, at this point PS5 should offer a deal where you can trade in your Xbox one x for a guaranteed pre order. I’d still pay full price for the PS5 and would happily do a conversion or buyback if they could supply where Microsoft could not. I mean, I have a nice pc but I’m now at the point where there is no point in having both xbox and pc.

To think, some are trying to sell these for $1200! I will patiently wait for the digital version at $399. There is no game out now that makes me want to waste my time hunting one down, or paying more that retail. By the Summer, they will be here - if the USA is still here...

Wow, I am shocked that worked. I got the bundle at Gamestop. Not exactly what I wanted but I am planning to return Demon Souls which came with it (that game is too hard and I'm a baby). Now I just have to wait until January 29th and hope my order is not cancelled or delayed between now and then.
