There's no camping outside your game shop this year to be the first kid on the block with a PS5.

Sony's next generation of console gaming officially begins next week when it releases the PlayStation 5, but unlike previous console launches, there won't be overnight camping to secure one of the gaming devices.

Sony has announced that in an effort to keep staff, gamers, and retailers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, all day-of launch sales will be conducted through online retailers.

No PS5 units will be available in-store for purchase on November 12, but if you had previously preordered the PS5 for pick-up, you'll still be able to grab your new console during the designated time that your retailer allotted to you. Sony noted that customers planning to do in-store pickup on launch day should confirm those details with the retailer.

"Please don't plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase," Sid Shuman, senior director SIE content communications, said in a PS Blog update. "Be safe, stay home, and place your order online."
