PS5 Exclusive Destruction All-Stars Delayed To 2021, Will Be A Free PS Plus Game

The arcade car destruction game has been pushed out of the PS5 launch window, but you'll get to claim it with your PlayStation Plus subscription when it does release.

The arcade car game Destruction All-Stars has been pushed out of its prior PlayStation 5 launch day release. Rather than November, the first-party Sony game will now release in February 2021. But on the bright side, the announcement also gave word that it will be a free game for PlayStation Plus members.

A post on the PlayStation Blog from product development director Pete Smith emphasizes how important it is to throw down in a destruction derby with plenty of other players, so it will be available for two months for PlayStation Plus members, starting at the game's launch. That should get plenty of people aboard so you can knock them around. The announcement suggests it will be available to claim for two months, after which you would probably be able to keep it with your Plus subscription.

Now Playing: Destruction Allstars Trailer | Sony PS5 Reveal Event

If you've already preordered the game, you'll get a refund. The blog also promises a new trailer and details coming next week, to further sate your appetite for the February release.

"This may be disappointing news for some of you who were looking to play the game at launch, but we hope you understand the decision," Smith says. The blog does not outline a specific reason for the delay.

Destruction All-Stars debuted with the PlayStation 5 reveal event in June, looking something like Rocket League meets Twisted Metal. You'll take to your armored up cars and try to smack the others around, and once your car takes too much damage you can get out on-foot and try to stay in the game by continuing to wreak havoc.

The PlayStation 5 launches on November 12, so check out our PS5 preorder guide for tips on how to snag one.

Its not free its, its free with a subscription based service you have to renew to keep the game, so its kinda like renting.

Its better than the $70 price tag granted but i was looking forward to this on launch :(

This is just an honest question if people know? . Is it still worth keeping PS Plus if no plans to buy a PS5 in the foreseeable future?. I have a ps4 pro but is this still going to be supported or best to just cancel it and pick it up again when i decide to get a PS5?

@deviltaz35: it's worth it for those who play online which many people do. I believe ps4 free games will be even better now that more focus will be on ps5. I just got a $30.99 deal so It's well worth it IMO

@deviltaz35: Things to consider, some will be repeating what others have already said...

- PS+ games in your library: if you play any regularly, you'll want to keep +

- Online gaming: if you do any online gaming on PS4, you'll want to keep +

- Those + discounts can be pretty sweet if you catch the right deal

If none of the above is a worry to you, then by all means, let it lapse. Any + games will still be there should you decide to reactivate.

@deviltaz35: if you play games online then you should keep ps plus, doesn't matter which console you're on. PS4 isn't going to become obsolete the moment PS5 launches, it's got at least a good 3 more years to go before that happens.

@deviltaz35: There is no negative for ceasing your Plus subscription as anything you have accrued in your library will be available once you resubscribe. The only thing you might want to consider is that if there is a game which you want when you aren't subscribed you don't get it added to your library unless you subscribe again, something worth keeping your eye on.

Destruction All Stars did look like a f2p game from the very beginning.

On the other hand, Halo Infinite looks like a Pachinko Machine game lol

Was going to get this on day 1, so that's a bummer.

Plus side, now it'll be a freebie!

@bryanweary: Other than the delay it gains you more than the rest of us in that case: you get to buy and play something else as well.

I wonder what that does to those people who ended up with PS5 bundles that prematurely packaged this game with it and they now wont be able to deliver.

@lionhartwolf: I got the bundle. Game Stop sent me an email saying my order is delayed. That better not be the entire order. Some people saying that it’s not the whole order but I’m pessimistic about this

@Jinzo_111887: That game never got the support it deserved really. It would have been fantastic to see a Driveclub 2 in 4k.

Looks like a f2p video game, delay is probably to add micro transactions.

I don’t think that a lot of people were expecting to buy Destruction All-Stars on release date with a full price tag. Making it free with PS Plus seems ok. With that you avoid the possible flop of the game, and if it’s not that good people are not going to criticize it harshly because they got it free with the service. So good move

@gamer_4_life: This also gives it a chance to gain a fanbase, which wasn't going to happen at $70. Rocket League is a good example. Not sure Rocket League would have gained popularity as a standard release but being a PS+ title allowed the game to grow a fanbase. Wouldn't surprise me if something similar happened with Destruction All-stars.
