PS4's Nier: Automata Announced for PC With Bizarre Video

The follow-up to 2010's Nier arrives to PS4 and PC in 2017.

Square Enix announced at Gamescom today that Nier: Automata would make its way to Steam in addition to PS4. Nier creator Yoko Taro revealed the news in a humorous video, where he said he wishes he could be in Germany, though he'd probably "pig out" on beer and sausages.

"I will stay here and work hard on making Nier: Automata instead then," Taro said. "Well, to be honest, I'm not working all that hard really. You can look forward to it if you want, but I wouldn't expect all that much if I were you. Oh yeah, apparently there will also be a Steam version, too.

"VALVE!" Taro cried, holding an actual valve up to his eye as if it was a spyglass. We're not sure why he did this, but we're sure glad that he did. Also, it's cool that Automata is coming to PC. You can watch the video, courtesy of YouTube user MiiSeeks, above.

Nier: Automata releases on PS4 and PC in 2017.

Nier: Automata was announced at E3 2015. The original game was developed by Cavia, while Platinum Games is on board to develop the sequel. We found out last year that Automata will continue the series' weirdness, while adopting Platinum's well-known style of combat. We got the opportunity to check the upcoming game out at this year's E3, where GameSpot's Alexa Ray Corriea was impressed by the action.

"I was immediately reminded of the aforementioned Bayonetta," she said of Nier: Automata. "Combat is fluid, and switching between attacks and weapons is smooth. Playing as the android warrior 2B, I flipped and flitted around my enemies, whipped my sword out mid-air to smack them away before following up with a ranged attack. Everything moved quickly, a dance between enemies, 2B and her AI companion 9S."

You don't know why he held up a valve to his eye and said valve? Really? What sort of game reviewers are you. Like on one hand let's not be snotty about what we know, but on the other hand if you don't know that valve is largely responsible for counter strike and half life and pretty much the start up of the steam system when it's your job to keep track of these companies what are you even doing?

even games on PS4 are making it to PC.....with every game on one being playable on PC soon (at least from what i have read) they are giving up the very reason to buy a console.....gaming done right is cheaper on PC just because of online costs......you cant get people paying for that and consoles if games come out on something they already own.....

@smokerob79: This game was never announced as an exclusive, sony from the start said console exclusive and square enix were the one saying exclusive to ps4.

There are countless games coming to ps4 and already out on it that you can't play on pc or xbox one.

FYI

He put the valve on his left eye, mimicking the old Valve logo. I think it's the first Valve logo, before a picture of a bald guy with valve on the back of his head.

I wonder how many other games that I thought that was exclusive to Ps4 are coming to PC. Im glad to see more devs supporting steam.

@kentray1985: This was never a game sony bought out as an exclusive though. Games like dead or alive xtreme 3, nioh etc just happen to only come to PS4 cause its where nearly all Japanese players play and they cba doing a western pc port

This is an obvious buy for me now that it's on PC.

I was considering the PS4 version initially, but now there is no debate. So awesome to see more gamers will get to enjoy this.

The way he cuts off to say Valve, seems like Valve are actively negotiating with developers of many consoles exclusives and probably providing them help on porting their games to PC.

Gr8 , now If we can get Vanquish and Byonetta on pc too

@the_master_race: for Vanquish you need to go to Sega and by their track record they'd be happy to oblige. For Bayonetta the only option is WiiU, Bayonetta 2 would never have been made if not for Nintendo.
