PS4's Gran Turismo Sport Release Date Revealed In New Trailer

GT Sport is coming to PS4 this October.

Sony has revealed the release date for Gran Turismo Sport, the first game in the series to come to PS4. The racer will launch in the US on October 17 before a European/Australian release on October 18. The publisher announced the news in a new European trailer, which you can watch above.

Sony said recently that the racing title would launch this fall, but this is the first time we've had a concrete date since its delay from 2016. Today's announcement follows the completion of the long-running closed beta, which finished earlier this week. That's not the last you'll see of it before launch, however; Sony says a full reveal of the cars and tracks included is coming soon. In the meantime, check out the game's box art--including images of the Day One, Steelbook, and Collector's Editions--below.

No Caption Provided

We played the latest iteration of Gran Turismo Sport at E3 2017, and you can check out our early impressions here. Elsewhere at the event, Sony confirmed GT Sport will run at 4K and 60 FPS on PS4 Pro, which will also get HDR support.

The racer is exclusive to PS4 and is being developed to support PlayStation VR, though it will not feature dynamic time or weather. The decision to drop these two features, which were key to the series, was made "in order to raise the frame rate and the quality of the image." Players will still be able to set time and weather before the start of a race.

Gran Turismo Sport is the first in the popular series since 2013's Gran Turismo 6, which was a PlayStation 3 exclusive. In our review, critic Joseph Barron said the racer possessed a "lack of vision" but that it "remains a fantastic simulation." For more, check out our full Gran Turismo 6 review.

@oscardayus I've posted this elsewhere but to no avail: Can you update the release date for this game on site which currently still set to 31st December 2016 please? Yes, that's twenty-sixteen and not a typo on my behalf. It's allowed one user to post his score for the game already (as a ten of course). This is not the only game that has this issue and someone needs to get on top of this situation.

I still can't find any mention of whether or not the FOV will be adjustable (three presets doesn't count).

Having the ability to set an appropriate FOV for your screen size and how far you are sat away from it is fundamentally important to simulating driving (especially when using a wheel). Once you're used to having cockpit options (like being able to disable the visible arms and wheel and alter the height so your wheel lines up) as you have in PC sims, you realise just how important it is to immersion.

I can forgive the fact that these (fundamentally important in a modern day racing sim) features weren't present in the PS1 and PS2 titles as the hardware was a bigger limitation and games aiming to accurately simulate vehicle physics were in their infancy (I believe Grand Prix Legends is credited as the first title with an accurate tyre and car handling physics model). GT5 (the last Gran Turismo game I bought) and GT6 should have had these options and apparently GT5 did have the ability to alter FOV to the degree by using the multi-screen setup, however this was later patched out before I knew it existed (for some stupid reason).

The excuse normally given by people defending the lack of cockpit adjustment options put it down to performance. I'd rather play a game/sim with GTR Evolution's graphics and the ability to adjust FOV/cockpit options than play something that looks pretty but doesn't make me feel as if I'm in the driver's seat.

It's all about priorities and Kaz/Polyphy's priorities haven't matched mine for some time now. For example, standard/premium cars and blacked out cockpits. What were they thinking? It made the quality of the game feel inconsistent and the blacked out cockpits could be mistaken for a bug. If your design choice in a triple A title can be mistaken for a bug, you're not doing your job properly.

This isn't really GT game I was waiting for - I will miss racing obscure, everyday cars. In my mind, GT: Sport should have been an add-on, extension to full GT7... and not having full GT game on PS4 yet is a bit of a shame.

That said, I will get it... and F7 on my PC... after reviews are out.

Silly bickering around here, business as usual. We all know that X1X is more powerful than P4P, thus anything but better looking/performing X1X game would be a surprise. That said, majority of gamers will play on base hardware, and being one of them, I'm more curious how well will final GT:S perform on original PS4.

And then, of course, we have fancy videos and specs - but neither game is out. Hat down to true believers, but I'm definitely waiting for reviews on both, before I purchase either.

Hard to get excited for GT when there are excellent games like Forza, Assetto Corsa, and Project Cars. GT doesn't mean much anymore. Especially after GT6 being shit. GT Sport hasn't shown me anything to get excited about.

Got to say this game looks great. GT was the first sim racer I ever played way back on ps2 and I was amazed how good it looked at the time. Will it be as good as Forza 7? Probably not, time will tell. There's no denying though it looks great.?✌️

@Bgrngod: I hear you there, GT in October and then Skyrim VR in December. I just wish there were more VR games on the horizon but these are the best we'll get for now.

I used to love the Gran Turismo series but its boring now. I bet that Forza 7 will not only look better but it will be more fun also.

Geezus, this engine has a gorgeous lighting model. With HDR it's going to look stunning.

I don't mind the 1860p frame buffer if it looks this refined and holds 60fps. It will be practically analogous to a native result.

*Unless you're a cyborg with pixel-counting optics installed.

@runstalker: It's extremely difficult to tell you're gaming at 1800p with the Pro on 55"/65" 4K tv's unless you do a detailed side by side with a PC running maxed out. The true test of a great image is gaming without the feeling you are missing anything or notice distracting jagged lines or the like. In the console space I'm equally happy with anything 1800p or above. It wasn't until i actually got to see it and experience it that I was able to believe it. Something the xbox fanjerks refuse to acknowledge because they boycott all things reasonably minded.

Some new features in GT Sport:

-- Editable liveries (custom decals and paint jobs)

-- Better sounds

-- -- update: I just watched a GTS/Forza 7 comparison. Sounds might be better than previous GTs, but they've got a long way to go.

Also features:

-- 137 cars

-- 27 tracks

Still potentially problematic:

-- AI?

-- Damage modeling and "bump" physics?

Gran Turismo has been behind the competition for a while now. At least they're trying to catch up.

Driving simulator, and console should never be in the same sentence lol.

I used to be a huge huge Gran Turismo fan, but each, and every release just fell further behind Forza. I do hope this time around GT hits a home run, so Forza has to push harder.

This is a huge wait to see.

I'll be interested to see it. Jumped ship from Xbox360 to PS4 some time ago and while the controller leaves a bit to be desired (might have to check out some of those aftermarket ones. Bit pricey though) I've not had any complaints. I do miss Forza though. Surprised it's taken so long for a Gran Turismo to come out on the new system but I'm looking forward to it as the last one I played was probably 1 or 2 a long time ago. I'd like to see how it holds up against Forza. I'd get Apex for the PC, but I don't want to have to put up with Windows 10 unless I can help it. I'll be happy as long as the physics works well and I can tune.

@onehitta323: 177 cars and 19 locations with no dynamic weather, no dynamic time, cars that sound like vacuum cleaners is better than 700 cars, 30 locations with dynamic weather and time?

Gran Turismo hasn't been king since the days of PS2.

@sealionact: you mean the fact that it will run in 4k, 60fps, with hdr? I never said anything about dynamic weather. You can set all that stuff before the race. I don't give a damn about that. If you wanna race in a damn blizzard or a monsoon then all the power to you. Set it up before the race starts. Lmao .

@onehitta323: You're in denial. Which is not surprising considering its you... Nope you cannot set dynamic weather before the race. Unless you mean in Forza in which case you can. Ps faux pro isn't powerful enough for that, which the devs have confirmed... it's in the article if you had bothered to read it.

@onehitta323: Oh...you don't understand the use of the word "dynamic". As in ..it changes while you drive. Ps faux pro can't handle it which it says right before your quote..

" it will not feature dynamic time or weather. The decision to drop these two features, which were key to the series, was made "in order to raise the frame rate and the quality of the image."

Those two key features (available on forza) have been removed because it can't handle 4k 60fps and have dynamic weather and time. Click on the link in the article where it explains about frame rates dropping with dynamic weather.... oh and time... As is let's say le mans 24hr race which starts in daytime and goes through the night. Can't do that on the vacuum cleaner car game....

Simply setting a weather condition before the game and having it stay the same throughout the race is soooo 2005.

@sealionact: no it's you that doesn't understand. I don't care about that. I said and the article says you can set the time and weather before the race starts if you're that worried about it. Forza 6 didnt even have dynamic weather and time. Gran turismo 6 did. So keep dreaming and making up lies. I personally don't care about it going from sunny to a monsoon of blizzard in the middle of a race. I'm not gonna pick bad weather conditions to begin with 99% of the time when I race anyway. 4k, 60fps, and hdr. Plus with the ps vr it's gonna be sweeeet. Oh ya where's your Xflop vr? Lmao.

Heh...why are you bringing up forza 6? I'm comparing this 4k game to forza 7 which is a 4k 60fps game that has a key feature missing along with less cars and less tracks.... and vacuum cleaner cars.

Suddenly 4k 60fps matters to Sony fanboys. Yet the game is missing great dynamic features supported by other games dropped to meet frame-rate goals. Fanboys calling their inferior product next gen 2.0. Did crack have a clearance sale or something?

@khanwashere: What group are you labeling me as? I bet your wrong looking at your reply. I do love the Xbox One, not as much as my PC though. I even own 2 PS4's. PC gaming allows for much more than 60 fps, and you can tell the difference. What sounds retarded is your assumptions. Sony fans bashed the Xbox One for power, then somehow contradict themselves when they are one upped by the competition in the Xbox One X. Some people can only dish it, not good on receiving it. I just find humor of everyone's panties being in a bunch when everything they were touting 3 years ago means the opposite now.
