Now Playing: GS News Update: PS4's Deep Down Trademarked Again By Capcom

Publisher Capcom has filed another trademark in the US for PS4-exclusive dungeon-crawler Deep Down.

The application was submitted on February 9, 2017, and it is the second of its kind; a previous Deep Down trademark from July 2013 is still active. The two applications are identical.

Whether the trademark means anything in particular is not clear--it does not necessarily mean Deep Down is about to make a comeback.

Deep Down was announced at the PlayStation 4 reveal event in early 2013, but has since gone quiet. After announcing the game would be free-to-play, Capcom delayed the game in 2014, stating, "we want to finish a game that fully uses the PS4 hardware specs."

Other than a couple of trailers, that was the last we heard of Deep Down until 2015, when Capcom reassured fans the game was not canceled, but said that changes were on the way so it "might take just a little longer."

The game, which is set in 2094 New York, will deliver a "realer than real" experience, according to Capcom.

This is good news. This is the game, I was going to buy a PS4 for, though it never came out. Now I am wondering about a new PS console, for it's release... Maybe they'll finally get the resources they need, to complete and release the game. I am hoping they are making the game better, than it ever was before. Until then any news about the new PS console, or is that only Xbox that releasing a new console?

This game looks super tight but it could easily suck ballz unless they copy Dark Souls formula with the PvP & game play , it might even be enuf for me to pick up Sony's latest if we could just get some decent fighters I'd officially be a "gamer" again, but it looks like I'll be f****ng off with my Switch for the foreseeable future

Irritating this was shown and it's still not out.

I figured to play this close to launch and where is it now?

This and Wild.

Now that PS4 Pro is out, I don't want Capcom to stick to their original BS argument for this game saying that Deep Down is targeting 30 fps to preserve a "cinematic feel" LOL. AIM FOR 60 fps! Sacrifice some resolution if need be!

Sounds like we're be hearing more about this title

I'd forgotten all about this game, wish they'd just do another Dragon's Dogma instead.

Avatar image for Thanatos2k

Deep down, we all know this is another Scalebound. Crapcom is too stupid to make the game players want, and that is Dragon's Dogma 2. Not a garbage Dragon's Dogma MMO. Not a F2P microtransaction scamorama Deep Down. A pay $60, get a huge fun game Dragon's Dogma 2.

They have a lot to price if they want to compete with other games in the genre. And don't even think about making it F2P like they initially planned. Capcom has already messed up several times (SFV shipped less than 2 million, and RE7 has shipped less than 4, and the recent DR is off to a bad start) so they clearly can't afford another dud.

Can they just put out a Dragon's Dogma? that is free money for them.

I tought it was Dragon Dogma 2 in the first trailer. Sadly it isnt, and I dont care anymore, This game is fail.

They were supposed to use some kind of new Engine for this game and later use it on their next Games.but now they have RE engine for this purpose.

Wasn’t this game supposed to be one of the highly anticipated PS4 launch titles much in the same vein as dark souls?

I remember seeing clips of it and thinking while it might be perceived as a direct “response” from Capcom (and thus might be misconstrued as a cheap rip-off.) to the souls franchise it still looked interesting.

I would say something like this is more than likely to remain in videogame limbo considering how long it has already been but you never know.

We just got Nioh after all.

@videogameninja: IDEA!!! Make a Limbo Ninja game! It can be a Music/Action RPG!

It's never been done before I don't think!

Avatar image for gamingdevil800

@videogameninja: It looked more monster hunter than dark souls to me. And monster hunter has very similar combat to dark souls.

Avatar image for videogameninja

@gamingdevil800: Makes sense I guess. After all, Monster Hunter is made by Capcom so...

Truly forgot about this game lol it is one that i wanted a long time ago

Avatar image for Xero_Kaiser

I forgot this game even existed.

Avatar image for Barighm

@Xero_Kaiser: Heck, I thought it WAS released, but nobody cared.

Avatar image for PSYCHOV3N0M

@Barighm: I honestly did think this game was released long ago but didn't make any headlines lol.

Avatar image for Xero_Kaiser

@Barighm: That'll probably be this game's fate anyway. Even in 2013, it wasn't blowing anyone away. Now Bloodborne, DS3 and Nioh have raised the bar even higher. I can't help but think that they missed their window of opportunity.

Avatar image for Pyrosa

@Xero_Kaiser: There's still room. Look at Lords of the Fallen: It was a knockoff, and it was okay. Lots of people played it.

...but it was certainly no DS/DS3/BB/Nioh.

Avatar image for Xero_Kaiser

@Pyrosa: True. Maybe they'll surprise us.
