PS4 System Update 2.51 Rolls Out

Patch notes outline various stability improvements.

Sony has begun rolling out a new system software update to PlayStation 4, bringing with it various tweaks and improvements to the previous firmware build.

The console update weighs about 245MB, and should now be available to PS4 owners across North America and Europe. Brief patch notes, copied below, suggest that the new update will implement minor fixes.

PS4 Update 2.51 Patch Notes

  • System software stability during use of some features has been improved.
  • Operation quality during use of some applications has been improved.

One bug that some users discovered back in March, where a notification informing players about Rest mode would continually pop up when the console turned on, has not been fixed.

when will this random rest mode problem be fixed as sick of it now!!!its just wiped all my save games,my psn account and everything else off my ps4 after going into rest mode during gta v online and then started by itself then turned off straightaway again then came back on saying it was checking filesystem due to bad turn off !!! i didnt even turn it off :/ xbox 1 for me if this is not fixed within the month :/ waste of money GRRRRRRRRR

PS4 System Update 2.51 Rolls Out, and does nothing. Seriously, I own close to 50 retail games now on PS4, and every one of them has crashed with a random error at least once. It seems that these "stability" updates are doing the exact opposite and are conunter-acting with actual game patches, so in reality it causes more games to crash then before.

This scared the hell out of me last night when I downloaded it... after the install it reset and the screen filled with a mess of colours and static, it sounded horrific and occasionally I'd see a flicker of the dashboard... paniced in case it had bricked my console.


Did a manual reset and all was fine but it aged me 5 years in a fraction of a second.

@makoshark222: They were thinking that they would get (and got) a better overall online experience, better and more diverse exclusive games, more functions from their console, and better support in terms of updates that actually fix and add things. When you compare that to the PS4 wich only benefits from stronger hardware that improves the resolution/frame rate wich you can hardly notice while playing the games it's not so hard to believe that people bought a Xbox One over a PS4. Even more so after the price of the Xbox One dropped below that of the PS4.

They havent fixed the discover notification, far out i hate that popup get rid of it.I just hope this new firmware will fix the random beeping the ps4 makes even though it is off, not rest mode, offffffff

Learn what? All msft has done is add what sony already had out of the box... if anything, msft could learn to better optimize and stabalize its consoles os and apps.... bugs everywhere...

@7tizz: Don't people wonder why ; apart from content updates; all these updates are necessary in the first place? It's as bad as windows on PC . Too many bloody updates on everything nowadays. At least you can switch them off on PC and still use it without worrying about upgrades.

They should just build better systems to begin with.

@shadyshack: Good luck playing anything online, or using the store then. Granted, it is unfortunate - the quality of the firmware and games coming out on this new generation is just not nearly up to snuff, but it's really not any different than we've seen many times in the past.

@monson21502: 360 was the worse one when for so long they broke the black reproduction while watching movie playback. It was finally fixed but considering it took over 12 months from when it was brought to microsoft's attention to when it was actually fixed was pretty poor.

In saying that Nvidia gpu's on PC still don't detect Extended colour support with HDMI automatically so unless you change the settings in the driver you end up with grey instead of black on 1080p.


We have come so far in technology yet they can still miss the most obvious things , at least you don't need a third part program to activate it now though like you had to in the past.
